My client, a large chemical company, is currently seeking multiple I&E Technician's in Carson, California. 

The Instrument and Electrical (I&E) Technician will interface with the appropriate maintenance, Engineering and manufacturing resources to resolve, improve and implement maintenance activities in a safe, responsible and environmentally sound manner which is in compliance with all regulatory requirements. While striving to provide personal support of daily operations, the I&E Technician will work to meet schedule requirements while continuing efforts toward personal development and continuous improvement. Work quality and performance must be maintained to the highest level with the expectation of all jobs being completed, documented and verified as completely satisfactory.

Regular Work Schedule: 4 – 10 Hour Days per Week, Overtime as Required

Major Responsibilities

The I&E Technician monitors, troubleshoots, and services 120V up to 4kV field equipment and instrumentation (motors, sensing devices, control valves and other control loop components). They must be aware of and follow all safety and security guidelines according to Company policy.

Required Qualifications:
  • 8 Years of Age with a High School diploma or GED
  • Completion of a California State Approved Program or Equivalent
  • Completion of a two-year Associates degree in Instrumentation or related field, plus at least 3 years of experience or at least 5 years of experience.
  • Must possess or obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card prior to first day of employment
  • Possess a current, valid license to operate a motor vehicle in the United States.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a permanent basis without visa sponsorship (U.S. citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident)
  • Possess skills, knowledge, and training related to implementation of life critical processes: LOTO, system and process openings, working at heights, Hot Work, Confined Space Entry, Energized Electrical work.
Must have a good working knowledge of:
  • Digital, electronic and pneumatic instrumentation and controls and related troubleshooting techniques
  • Motors, power and control circuits and related troubleshooting techniques.
  • Smart transmitters and field devices and the tools used to check them (Emerson
  • Communicators)
  • Schematics, wiring diagrams, Loop drawings, logic diagrams, blueprints and PID
  • drawings.
  • Distributed control systems or DCS (Siemens, Honeywell)
  • Programmable logic controllers or PLCs (e.g. Allen Bradley)
  • Area and Personnel Atmospheric Monitors (MSA, General Monitor)
  • Basic understanding of window-based programs: MS Word, MS Excel, Outlook
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting knowledge and maintenance repair experience
  • Self-initiated learning
  • Time management processes and skills
  • Self-initiated corrective actions/follow-through
Must be able to maintain:
  • A professional relationship in the internal work environment with co-workers
  • A professional relationship in the external work environment and with public agencies.
  • Exhibit professionalism and maintain order in highly stressful/emergency situations.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
  • Must be willing and able to work outside, year-round under various weather conditions. Our site is a 24-hour, 365 days per year operation
  • The candidate must be capable of climbing (scaffolds, towers, vessels, etc.) and working at heights
  • Able to lift/push/pull up to 50 pounds
  • The ability to work in a confined space and from elevated platforms
  • Able to wear appropriate protective equipment:
    • Flame resistant clothing (FRC)
    • Safety shoes and hard hat
    • Ear and eye protection (safety glasses, goggles and face shields)
    • Respiratory protection (partial and full-face respirators)
    • Chemical protective suits, rubber boots, and gloves
    • Required to participate in Respiratory Fit Testing Program
    • Basic computer skills are a requirement for this position
Sensory Requirements:
  • Observe peripheral objects while vision is focused on a given point
  • Judge distances and spatial relationships
  • Distinguish sounds of very low volume or at low or high sound extremes, i.e., warning calls, motor noise
  • Identify and distinguish colors
  • Read fine print or closely inspect items
  • Distinguish odors
  •  Intact tactile sensation for use of tools requiring fine motor skills
  • Feel vibration variance
Cognitive requirements:
  • Measure and convert between both English and metric measurements
  • Draw conclusions from analytical, written or computer-generated materials
