We are looking for a "SURF UMBILICAL SPECIALIST (M/F)" for one of our clients, to be based in Île-de-France, France for a long-term project (1 to 3 years, potentially renewable).
Contexte & Environment
The activity takes place within the context of the FEED, Call For Tender, and Project Execution phases of a major very deep-water greenfield development in Namibia. A multidisciplinary internal project team coordinates the development studies managed by the operator’s OneTech division, focusing on the deep-water discoveries offshore Namibia Block 2913B.
The key technical challenges faced by the project include reservoir development and management, as well as defining the subsea production and injection systems in a highly challenging environment. The project will be developed with the objectives of maximizing economic outcomes by optimizing reserves and schedules, reducing costs and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, while maintaining the technical quality of installations and adhering to strict H3SE requirements.
"SURF UMBILICAL SPECIALIST (M/F)". What will your responsibilities and missions be?
Missions
The Service Holder will be responsible for all dynamic and static umbilical design activities, support for installation operations, and technical matters related to the project, as part of the internal project team.
This will include, but not be limited to, reviewing, approving, preparing, and managing all studies and documentation from Contractors, Suppliers, and Sub-Suppliers related to the Service Holder’s field of expertise during FEED, Call For Tender, and EPCI phases.
The project scope includes:
- Production system: 2 rings, 4 Steel Lazy Wave Risers (approximately 25 km each), 6 wet insulated rigid flowlines (total length approximately 71 km), and 4 rigid spools in Carbon Steel and CRA-lined pipe (WOL/MLP/HRB), as well as 19 rigid jumpers made of Duplex material
- Gas Injection system: 2 Steel Lazy Wave Risers (~12 km each), 2 rigid flowlines (~35 km each) in Carbon Steel and CRA-lined pipe (WOL/MLP/HRB), and 19 flexible well jumpers (total length up to 19 km)
- Control system: 2 dynamic and 27 static umbilicals, 2 Subsea Distribution Units (SDU), 38 XTs, and associated flying leads
Along with associated subsea structures, equipment, and ancillaries, the project is for a very deep-water oil greenfield development (water depth >3000m).
The Service Holder will also support the control system, flow assurance, risers, and flowlines design specialists in all matters related to the Service Holder’s expertise (including interference issues, chemical flow assurance, etc.).
Additionally, the Service Holder will provide technical support to the SURF Technical Manager and team, while coordinating with other project disciplines such as SPS, FPSO, and Field Operations.
Activities
- Adopt and demonstrate exemplary behavior regarding H3SE&Q, implementing and enforcing H3SE rules and requirements within the area of responsibility. Ensure all flowline technical documentation and SURF Contractor activities comply with H3SE&Q standards and promptly highlight any potential deviations. Guarantee safe working practices throughout all project phases
- Adopt and demonstrate exemplary conduct in accordance with Company Ethics and the “Code of Conduct” policy. Promote and enforce the Anti-Corruption Program within the project
- Take full responsibility for all FEED umbilicals engineering activities and manage all related FEED contractor technical tasks within the discipline. Monitor FEED studies concerning umbilicals from vendors and engineering houses
- Prepare and ensure timely delivery of the umbilical sub-system (2 dynamic umbilicals and 27 static umbilicals) Call For Tender technical package for the SURF EPCI contract, taking into account the impact on other SURF/FPSO/SPS sub-systems (Steel Lazy Wave Risers, FPSO mooring lines, future risers/umbilicals development)
- Review and assess the fitness-for-purpose and compliance of SURF tenderers’ technical offers against Project and Company requirements. Lead technical clarifications with tenderers and ensure timely closure of technical qualifications. Conduct technical evaluations of tenders and support the preparation of the Request for Technical Approval (RTA) technical section. Define, develop, issue, and maintain all necessary technical documentation related to umbilicals design and installation activities. Support and participate in the development and maintenance of main Project Management documents (SOR, FDP, PEP, PQP, Risk registers, etc.)
- Ensure monitoring, review, and validation of progress performed by the SURF Contractor and its suppliers regarding the discipline, analyze and report any deviations, and propose corrective actions
- Proactively propose alternative designs or technical solutions as required, considering various project constraints, such as minimizing hook-up and in-place loads to reduce dynamic umbilical fatigue, mitigating potential clashes with other SURF items (e.g., SLWR and mooring lines), assisting the Installation Lead in optimizing SLWR/umbilical wet parking configurations and transfer activities to the FPSO, and supporting SLWR engineers with Orcaflex studies
- Supervise and control detailed engineering by timely reviewing discipline-related documentation issued by the SURF Contractor (technical documents, queries, derogation requests) to ensure compliance with Project Specifications, Procedures, and applicable international standards, aiming to respect the schedule and optimize costs without compromising Quality and Safety
- Raise necessary comments and highlight any unsafe designs, deviations, unjustified design choices, or constructability issues
- Act as the technical point of contact for contractors on umbilical matters, and follow up with suppliers providing umbilical equipment such as bend stiffeners, latching mechanisms, bend restrictors, buoyancy modules, and VIV strakes
- Ensure technical compliance throughout the project lifecycle for engineered, procured, fabricated, tested, and installed umbilicals. Ensure all technical, QA/QC, and H3SE project policies and requirements are implemented, and that contractors comply with contractual obligations. Anticipate and promptly report any concerns, issues, or potential deviations to the Technical Manager. Propose timely and adequate solutions or optimizations
- Ensure alignment of work with umbilical specialists at Company Headquarters
- Liaise with other package teams (SPS, FPSO) on interface matters, with support from Interface Managers and leads
- Organize and participate in Project Reviews
- Assist and support the Technical Manager and Subsea Manager on all aspects of umbilicals activities related to the Call For Tender, clarification and evaluation process, project execution, contracts management, and partner relations
- Coordinate with team members, including the SURF contract engineer, for correspondence and contract follow-up throughout the CFT process and project execution
- Participate in the installation phase, testing, commissioning, and handover activities, providing assistance to the Installation Leader during offshore campaigns as needed
- Collect lessons learned and provide feedback to Company entities as required. Assist in formalizing the project close-out report
