About the role
We have a fantastic opportunity for a Document Controller to join our Ground Engineering team, based at our offices in Fort Dunlop, Birmingham, as part of the HS2 project.
This role is being offered on a 9 month, fixed-term contract.
The HS2, N1/N2 (Area North) project covers the northern 90km section of Phase 1 of the overall HS2 scheme to provide a new high-speed rail connection between London and the North of England.
SB3 are a joint venture incorporating Balfour Beatty Ground Engineering (BBGE) and Bachy Soletanche Ltd (BSL), and are appointed by BBV, Balfour Beatty/ Vinci JV), to deliver the geotechnical works required along the approximately 90km of route from Leamington Spa to Lichfield.
The works comprises extensive geotechnical scope across circa 150 individual worksites including:

The works comprises extensive geotechnical scope across circa 150 individual worksites including:
- Circa. 9km of Diaphragm Walls;
- Secant/contiguous structures totalling 150,000 lin. m of piling;
- Plunge Columns, Tension Piles, Ground Anchors, Soil Nails and Ground Improvement;
- Piled bridges & viaducts.
The successful candidate will have the following accountabilities:
- Manage the requirements for document control for the Balfour Beatty Bachy Soletanche Joint Venture working for HS2 throughout the duration of the contract to ensure implementation and compliance to standards established within the Balfour Beatty Business Management System (BMS);
- Apply contractual requirements in relation to Document control;
- Work proactively with project managers and teams to ensure a deliverables forecast is prepared and adhered to;
- Ensure accurate control of documentation from design, preconstruction/ construction through to completion and archiving;
- Liaise with project or bid teams to ensure they have a full understanding of document control and system procedures and provide training and instruction as required such that documentation control requirements are met;
- Ensure that procedures are fully implemented in order to meet requirements of the BMS and other documentation and information systems, e.g. Business Collaborator;
- Manage business archiving such that all documentation is stored efficiently and can be accessed and referenced at all times;
- Work to continuously improve and enhance procedures and systems utilised for document control;
- Provide feedback such that project managers are fully aware of all documentation issues;
- To identify opportunities for improvement within the document control process;
- Ensure a relentless focus on Zero Harm.
The following qualities/experience are essential:
- A good understanding of IT and Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel;
- An ability to understand how the operations of the Team relate to others and work collaboratively to obtain the best outcome for the business;
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
- Determination to see tasks through to completion, with excellent planning and organisation skills.
- Good experience of document control gained within the construction sector;
- Existing working experience of Business Collaborator, ProjectWise and SharePoint Applications;
- A UK Driving Licence.
