Job Summary:

We are seeking a proactive and highly organised Band 3 Housekeeper to join our busy and dynamic Children and Young People's Outpatient Department at the Royal Hospital for Children. This role is integral to ensuring the smooth running of clinical services by maintaining a safe, clean, and well-stocked environment, while also taking responsibility for procurement processes and supporting service improvements.

Job Purpose:

To provide a high standard of housekeeping and stock management within the Outpatient Department, ensuring compliance with infection control standards and supporting clinical teams. The post holder will take a lead role in ordering, organising, and monitoring stock and equipment, and will act as a key point of contact for facilities management issues.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Procurement & Stock Control:
    • Lead on ordering and managing stock and equipment (excluding medication).
    • Monitor usage trends and maintain accurate records to prevent shortages.
    • Ensure timely replenishment of clinic rooms and rotation of stock, checking expiry dates.
    • Maintain organised storage areas and escalate procurement issues promptly.
  • Environmental Standards & Infection Control:
    • Ensure cleanliness and appropriate storage of equipment and furnishings.
    • Report and escalate repairs and damages via the FM system.
    • Maintain compliance with infection prevention and control standards.
  • Supervisory & Communication Duties:
    • Provide daily updates to the Senior Charge Nurse and escalate concerns.
    • Support junior staff and assist with training in stock management and cleaning protocols.
    • Record and maintain daily and monthly cleaning schedules accurately.

Skills & Experience Required:
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative in a fast-paced environment.
  • Previous experience in a healthcare setting is desirable.
  • Experience working with children is advantageous.
  • Membership of Disclosure Scotland's PVG Scheme is required.

Hours: 37 per week (spread across 5 days).
