Responsibilities

The main purpose of the Procurement & Material Mechanical Engineer's role is to execute mechanical material purchasing tasks in an efficient and timely manner while complying with the Company's standards of price, quality, timing, and reliability of supply.
  • Conduct affairs with the highest standards of respect, integrity, accountability, agility, quality, safety, and corporate governance.
  • Ensure compliance with the Code of Ethics policy and adoption of company values.
  • Adopt and utilize systems and ERP within the function.
  • Coordinate with superiors to complete and update the mechanical material procurement plan and ensure it is regularly updated.
  • Actively participate in the prequalification of mechanical material suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Evaluate whether suppliers can consistently deliver products and services in a timely manner and within required quality standards.
  • Prepare purchase agreements as per approved submittals.
  • Ensure that purchase orders are issued in a timely and effective manner.
  • Support direct manager in reviewing RFQ packages for compliance with agreed templates and guidelines.
  • Coordinate with site operations to resolve issues impacting the quality or completeness of packages.
  • Prepare vendor shortlists.
  • Consolidate received quotations in the quotation evaluation sheet to enable evaluation and comparison of offers.
  • Under the supervision of the Senior P&M Mechanical Engineer, negotiate price and payment terms with final vendors.
  • Coordinate with suppliers to ensure performance targets are achieved.
  • Manage and track recovery plans to address supplier issues.
  • Work with the direct manager to implement corrective actions when quality, delivery, or cost performance targets are not met.
  • Search for, identify, and establish contacts with new suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Conduct periodic evaluation of suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Maintain the company's mechanical material suppliers' and subcontractors' database.
  • Maintain quality and price records for all purchased items.
  • Provide support for the professional development of direct reports.
  • Report to and support the Senior Procurement & Materials Mechanical Engineer / P&M Manager on procurement decisions.
  • Interface with key mechanical material suppliers on all purchasing matters.
  • Coordinate with the vendor development unit on vendor management.
  • Interact daily with direct reports on operational and business-related matters.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Business Administration; relevant technical certificates preferred.
  • Excellent knowledge of the construction industry; preferably experience in a procurement role within a construction company.
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in supply chain/procurement in a comparable-sized organization.
  • Fluent in English; Arabic preferred.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite.
  • Advanced vendor evaluation skills.
  • Strong engineering knowledge.
  • Knowledge of risk management.
  • Proficient in job scoping and specification.
  • Proficient in project management.
  • Proficient in data gathering and assessment.
