The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Senior Environmental Consultant to join our growing Water & Environment team in Sydney. This role will suit a technically strong environmental professional who is confident working across complex statutory approvals as part of a multidisciplinary team and acting as a trusted advisor to clients and government agencies across NSW.

You will play a key role in delivering major infrastructure and development projects, contributing expertise across planning approvals, environmental assessments, as well as design and construction phase compliance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as an environmental advisor within multidisciplinary design teams, clearly communicating NSW environmental and planning requirements to designers and engineers.
  • Prepare Reviews of Environmental Factors (REFs) for infrastructure and development projects.
  • Manage and prepare State Significant Infrastructure (SSI) and/or State Significant Development (SSD) Environmental Impact Statements (EIS).
  • Undertake Social Impact Assessments, including compliance with NSW legislative requirements.
  • Manage and coordinate specialist subconsultants (e.g. ecology, noise, air, traffic).
  • Provide environmental compliance oversight, including design and construction‑phase compliance and management of conditions of approvals issued under NSW legislation.
  • Liaise effectively with NSW Government agencies, approval bodies, and key stakeholders throughout project lifecycles.
  • Provide mentoring and technical guidance to junior team members where required.

Qualifications & Experience

You are a confident and credible environmental professional with strong NSW approvals experience and the ability to operate autonomously on complex projects. Ideally you will also have:
  • A thorough working knowledge of NSW and Commonwealth planning and environmental legislation.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing REFs, SSI and/or SSD EISs.
  • Experience delivering Social Impact Assessments, with relevant qualifications under NSW legislation.
  • Strong experience managing environmental compliance during construction phases.
  • Proven experience working within multidisciplinary design teams.
  • Well‑established experience liaising with NSW Government agencies and key stakeholders.
  • Strong written, verbal, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Qualifications within a relevant field, with experience working as an Environmental Engineer, Environmental Scientist, or Environmental Planner
  • Registration as an Environmental Assessment Practitioner under NSW legislation is desired but not necessary

At KBR, we value you - here's how.

While our people are busy delivering leading science, technology, and engineering solutions, we're committed to providing them with a supportive, trusting environment and benefits that enable them to thrive and continue doing what they do best.

Benefits include:

  • Paid professional membership fees
  • Life/Health insurance discounts
  • Employee stock purchase plans
  • Personal career development plans
