The Vacancy

WRc, part of the RSK Group, is currently looking to appoint a Senior Consultant - Process Scientist / Engineer with an in-depth knowledge of water and/or wastewater treatment processes to join their Integrated Systems and Environment (IS&E) directorate in Swindon.

This is a full time permanent role (37 hours per week), where you will be working on a hybrid basis. You must hold a full driving licence, and be willing to travel regularly throughout the UK and internationally, including frequent overnight stays away from home.

The successful candidate will be inquisitive, keen to understand our clients' needs, and ready to play your part in delivering solutions. Senior Consultants are expected to demonstrate excellent communication with clients, team members, peers and senior management. You will be self-motivated, exhibit a proactive approach, work well within a team environment, and willing to take on additional responsibilities for work outside the IS&E directorate.

Key Responsibilities:

Business development -
  • Collaborate with the IS&E directorate team to identify and develop potential new business opportunities.
  • Assist the IS&E directorate team in developing value propositions, service offerings and technical solutions for future project opportunities.
  • Apply networking skills to establish strong working relationships with clients, team members and colleagues outside IS&E to identify opportunities for IS&E and to support other teams as needed.
  • Represent IS&E / WRc at internal and external events, such as water industry events and conferences, to promote awareness of service offerings and value propositions and support business development

Delivery -
  • Apply specialised expertise and knowledge of current best practice for technical delivery.
  • Lead the identification, development & refinement of technical solutions to resolve client's challenges and issues
  • Lead project delivery to achieve or exceed project targets (budget, time and quality).
  • Support and mentor other team members when they are under pressure to meet clients' expectations and deadlines.
  • Achieve or exceed utilisation target as agreed with line manager.
  • Network and liaise with academia and / or industry to support delivery of end-to-end solutions.

Person Specification:
  • An Undergraduate and / or postgraduate degree (e.g., Master's or PhD) in a relevant topic (e.g. Science, Engineering or Environmental-based subject)
  • Relevant experience, gained from consultancy, academia, research and development or within the water industry
  • Relevant experience in water and/or wastewater treatment with specialist knowledge of water and/or wastewater theory and industry practices, standards and their application
  • Chartered engineer / scientist or working towards chartership
  • Experience of working in a laboratory, research environment
  • Demonstrable examples of a proactive approach to solving problems
  • Demonstrable expertise in a defined technical area.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent writing skills and the ability to produce robust and comprehensive written reports / deliverables on behalf of RSK/WRc.

Salary and Benefits:
  • Up to £75,000 depending on experience
