The Onshore Tower Structure department at Vestas is integral to the design, certification, and lifecycle management of onshore wind turbine towers. Operating within Vestas' Technology & Operations division, the department focuses on delivering innovative and reliable tower solutions that support both steel and hybrid (steel-concrete) technologies. Our multidisciplinary team collaborates globally to ensure that tower structures meet the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and compliance.
Key responsibilities include:
- Overseeing structural engineering activities for tower platforms, ensuring continued certification validity and long-term compliance
- Designing and modifying steel and hybrid (steel-concrete) wind turbine towers with a focus on sustainability, structural efficiency, and cost optimization
- Collaborating cross-functionally with certification, sales, compliance, and cost-reduction teams to align structural solutions with business and regulatory objectives
- Coordinating the timely execution of lifecycle engineering tasks in alignment with internal quality processes and external certification timelines
- Acting as subject matter experts in relevant standards, including Eurocode, DiBT, and IEC, applying them effectively in daily engineering tasks and documentation reviews
Responsibilities
- Oversee structural engineering activities for legacy onshore tower platforms (CHT, TST, HTST, LDST), ensuring continued certification validity and long-term compliance
- Design and modify steel and hybrid (steel-concrete) wind turbine towers, with a focus on sustainability, structural efficiency, and cost optimization
- Ensure readiness for re-market deployment by maintaining up-to-date compliance with evolving regulations, particularly across Germany and Austria
- Collaborate cross-functionally with certification, sales, compliance, and cost-reduction teams to align structural solutions with business and regulatory objectives
- Ensure timely execution of lifecycle engineering tasks in alignment with internal quality processes and external certification timelines
- Act as a subject matter expert in Eurocode, DiBT, and IEC standards, applying them effectively in daily engineering tasks and documentation reviews
- Guide decision-making through structured stakeholder engagement, ensuring technical integrity and compliance are never compromised
- Maintain high engineering standards within a multicultural, distributed team environment across Portugal, Denmark, and India
Qualifications
- Master's degree in Civil, Structural, or Mechanical Engineering (or closely related discipline)
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in structural engineering, ideally within the wind energy or renewable infrastructure sectors
- Solid understanding of Eurocode standards and regulatory frameworks such as DiBT (Germany) and IEC
- Skilled in structural design and analysis of steel or hybrid (steel-concrete) structures
- Exposure to industry-standard finite element (FE) or structural analysis tools, particularly in alignment with your engineering background (civil or mechanical)
- Fluency in English is essential
- Prior experience working in multinational engineering environments
