As part of the Thermal Controls team, you are the thermal system integration lead that ensures optimal performance of thermal systems that make Tesla Energy products like Megapack, Supercharger and Powerwall world class. This role involves collaboration with multiple teams, including engineering, manufacturing, firmware, and service. It also requires the ability to apply engineering fundamentals to testing and integration of thermal systems that are at the core of Tesla's success. Responsibilities
- Develop and execute automated and manual tests to validate thermal system performance across various operating conditions
- Work closely with control and firmware engineers to validate and improve thermal control algorithms for all energy products
- Perform system validation of current and next generation Tesla Energy products
- Analyze fleet and test data to identify issues and recommend improvements
- Validate thermal system simulation results with experimental data
- Prepare technical reports and test summaries for stakeholders
- Work cross-functionally with controls, firmware, mechanical design, and reliability organizations
Requirements
- Degree in Mechanical or Chemical engineering, or equivalent experience
- 2+ years of experience with thermal system integration
- Excellent understanding of Thermodynamics and Heat Transfer, and thermal components (pumps, compressors, expansion valves, fans, etc.)
- Experience in working with hardware and/or test-benches to evaluate thermal system performance, as well as firmware integration
- Exceptional analytical problem-solving skills, able to identify and surface issues within complex HW/SW systems
- Proficiency with Python (read/write) and C (read)
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate cross-functionally, work hands-on, and execute on open-ended projects in a fast-paced, resource-constrained environment
- Preferred: Experience with MATLAB/Simulink, CAN tools (PCAN, CANape, CANalyzer), and data acquisition (DAQ) systems

$112,000 - $234,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
