EngineeringThis role is responsible for heading the PMR Laboratory. This involves ensuring installation and appropriate usage of the laboratory equipment and facilitating their preventive, predictive, breakdown maintenance and shutdown as well as calibration in collaboration with the engineering teams to maximise uptime of the equipment. Ensuring implementation of safe work practices including use of personal protective equipment during sample collection and testing, is a critical element of the role. This role is also required to ensure proper disposal during the testing process towards environmental sustainability. Responsibilities include preparing CAPEX and R&M budgets and managing indenting requirement for new equipment, spares and consumable.
The key responsibility of the role is to ensure the quality control and assurance function with respect to all processes at the PMR plant. This quality assurance is essential for the value of the product in the market, customer satisfaction. The role is required to provide the testing reports and certificates to the respective operations team, the technical services team and partner them in and monitoring product quality leveraging QA/ QC tools and techniques.
The role is required to collaborate with the operations team to understand the production plans in order to plan the testing schedules and with the supply chain team to understand dispatch schedules to plan delivery of laboratory testing reports for dispatch to domestic and international markets.
An important element of the role is partnering the technical services team in analysing metal recovery for metal accounting to minimise metal loss This involves ensuring collection of samples for incoming, in-process and outgoing materials from each batch process, their testing in the laboratory and generation of accurate and timely reports to aid in the metal balancing process. It involves Ensuring verification of calibration of equipment, weights and assays of material during custody transfers and recording of the same leveraging digital platforms. Ensuring accurate and timely documentation of test reports is a very important aspect of the role for reference of technical service, operations, supply chain teams as well as for quality audits and statutory inspections.
This role is expected to participate in improvement projects towards improving productivity, safety, sustainability, cost reduction through cross functional collaboration.
This role is expected to supervise and enable continuous training of the PMR laboratory team to improve functional and behavioural competences.

Education
- Graduate in Chemistry, Metallurgical Engineering
- Minimum 7 years in laboratory of PMR or other process plants with at least 3-5 years of experience in leading teams
- Understanding of laboratory management system & LIMS
- Understanding of copper smelting operations and precious metal refinery
- Understanding of quality systems
- Proficiency in analytical tools and techniques and ability to develop new analytical method
- Detailed understanding of statutes related to quality as well as health-safety and Environment
- Lab instrument knowledge / commissioning- ICP, AAS, XRF, S-OES, Fire Assay, Auto-Titration.
