Position Overview

The Director of Operational Technology (OT) for Renewable Energy will lead the development, integration, and management of cutting-edge operational technologies across the company's renewable energy assets, including wind, solar, and energy storage systems. This role is responsible for driving the deployment and optimization of control systems, SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition), cybersecurity protocols, and data analytics to enhance asset performance, reliability, and operational efficiency. The Director will work closely with internal and external partners to ensure all operational technologies are aligned with business objectives and industry best practices. The Sr. Director will hire, support and mentor a strong team of high performing team members who are passionate about the renewable energy sector, with a focus on technical and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

• Technology Strategy: Develop and implement an operational technology strategy that supports the company's renewable energy objectives, focusing on automation, control systems, and data-driven decision-making
• System Integration: Oversee the integration and optimization of SCADA systems, plant controllers, and energy management systems across renewable energy assets, ensuring seamless operation and real-time data visibilit.
• Cybersecurity: Lead the implementation of robust cybersecurity measures for operational technology systems, ensuring the protection of critical infrastructure from emerging threats and vulnerabilities
• Data Analytics: Utilize advanced data analytics tools and platforms to monitor and analyze operational performance, predict equipment failures, and drive continuous improvement in energy production
• Innovation & Emerging Technologies: Stay ahead of technological trends in the renewable energy sector, including IoT (Internet of Things), AI (Artificial Intelligence), and machine learning, to implement innovative solutions that optimize asset performance
• Operational Support: Provide technical oversight and support to field operations teams for troubleshooting, diagnostics, and optimization of renewable energy assets, ensuring all systems operate at peak efficiency
• Vendor Management: Collaborate with technology vendors, service providers, and engineering consultants to implement and manage hardware and software solutions for control systems and data management
• Compliance & Standards: Ensure all operational technology systems adhere to regulatory requirements, industry standards, and internal policies related to safety, cybersecurity, and reliability
• Team Leadership: Build and lead a high-performing team of engineers, technicians, and analysts focused on operational technology. Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the OT team
• Project Management: Oversee the design, implementation, and commissioning of OT projects, including upgrades, expansions, and new installations across renewable energy assets
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with IT, asset management, and operations teams to ensure alignment of technology strategies and seamless integration of OT and IT systems

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, or a related field; advanced degree in technology or engineering management is preferred
• 10+ years of experience in operational technology, SCADA systems, or control systems in the energy or utilities sector, with at least 5 years in a leadership role
• Extensive experience in renewable energy (solar, wind, or storage) or power generation technology
• Proven expertise in managing large-scale operational technology systems, including SCADA, PLCs, RTUs, and data acquisition systems

Skills

• In-depth knowledge of OT cybersecurity, network architecture, and communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, DNP3, IEC 61850)
• Proficient in data analytics, machine learning, and predictive maintenance techniques
• Strong project management skills with experience in leading multi-disciplinary teams
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills
• Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and communicate complex technical information to non-technical stakeholders

Additional Requirements

• Experience with energy management systems, plant controllers, and real-time monitoring platforms
• Familiarity with regulatory requirements related to grid integration, NERC-CIP standards, and other relevant industry regulations
• Ability to travel for site visits, vendor meetings, and industry events as needed
