GRAND OPENING JULY 2025!

The Nisqually Indian Tribe is developing a Medically Assisted Treatment (MAT) facility on Pacific Ave in Olympia, Washington to address the opioid crisis within the Thurston County area. The Nisqually Indian Tribe is passionate about developing a whole person recovery model, keeping all services under one roof so the patient has the best possible chance of recovery. Our goal is to bring healing and wellness to the community, focusing on the entire family by serving tribal and non-tribal patients.

Jobs are projected to start late May - early June 2025.

GENERAL SUMMARY

The Urinalysis Technician is responsible for various duties related to collection, processing, reporting, and recording of urinalysis samples on site. This position requires strong skills and experience in all aspects of office administration, basic accounting and mathematics, and knowledge of substance use disorder.

This position ensures confidentiality, security, and accuracy of records, and promotes positive employee, customer, and community relations. Strong written and verbal communication skills are required and outstanding customer service to fellow employees, customers, vendors, etc. is expected. Regular attendance is required, later hours or weekend time may be required, and a neat well-groomed professional appearance is essential.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide information and assistance to patients regarding the urine analysis process, addressing any concerns they may have.
  • Ensure full compliance with Nisqually Generations Healing Center policies and procedures regarding all aspects of collection and testing.
  • Observes collection of urine samples from clients in accordance with established procedures for substance abuse testing protocols.
  • Monitor and track process of drug control testing while adhering to strict confidentiality.
  • Adhere strictly to the chain of custody in handling collections, samples, and information to ensure integrity.
  • Analyze and interpret test results, identifying any anomalies that require further investigation.
  • Contact the supervisor immediately in the event of a conflict regarding UA or other testing processes.
  • Maintain accurate electronic records in the patient Electronic Health Record for urine and other test submissions; update client data as necessary to ensure accuracy.
  • Completes and files all requisite paperwork and documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Maintain high standards of ethical and professional conduct and adheres to all NGHC personnel policies.
  • Compose, draft, type, proofread, and edit documents to ensure conformance with established program policies and procedures including legal, scientific, and statistical reports.
  • Processes all urinalysis documentation for scanning and provide case management support to counselors.
  • Adhere to all laboratory safety standards and regulations, guidelines and HIPAA privacy rules.
  • Maintains ordering of all testing supplies on a regular basis.
  • Regularly calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment to ensure optimal performance and compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Be cross-trained to assist staff with all other duties when available.
  • Stay updated on new testing methodologies and technologies in the field of urine analysis.
  • Attend all staff and planning meetings as scheduled.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • One year of college or equivalent experience.
  • Must possess a valid Washington State Driver's license and maintain a driving record that meets the minimum requirements established by Nisqually Indian Tribes vehicle insurance provider.
  • Successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.
  • The ability to work with vulnerable populations including adults and children.
  • Must pass a State and National (FBI) criminal history background check prior to employment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Associate's degree or certification in a related field (e.g., Medical Laboratory Technology).
  • Previous substance abuse treatment and/or primary care experience strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of the Nisqually Indian Tribe's history, customs, traditions, and ability to demonstrate cultural sensitivity.
  • Experience working with Federally Recognized Tribes.

SUPERVISION

This position does not supervise others.

COMPETENCIES

Knowledge of:
  • Understanding of standard laboratory practices and urine analysis testing protocols.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations compliance requirements (e.g., HIPAA) relevant to laboratory operations.
  • Familiarity with human anatomy and physiology, particularly the urinary system and factors affecting urine composition.
  • Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, transcription, designing forms, and other office procedures and terminology.
  • Knowledge of substance use disorder and its effects on individuals, families, and communities is required.
  • In-depth knowledge of Electronic Health Records (EHRs) and health-related computer software applications.
  • Tribal, Federal, and state laws, codes, and regulations.
  • HIPAA and PHI requirements. Knowledge and adherence to state (RCW, WAC) and federal confidentiality regulations (42 CFR part 2)
  • Common office and administrative procedures.

Skilled in:
  • Strong ability to follow precise procedures and protocols.
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate sample collection, testing, and reporting.
  • Proficiency with laboratory equipment and software.
  • Operating a personal computer and standard office programs and equipment.
  • Organizational management practices.

  • Motivational interviewing (MI) skills or a desire to learn MI.

Ability to:
  • Ability to operate and maintain laboratory equipment used for urine analysis, including automated analyzers.
  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment issues and resolve discrepancies in test results effectively.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with patients and medical personnel.
  • Work in a computer-based environment, especially Microsoft Windows.
  • Work in a cross-cultural environment and understand the social and cultural contexts of patients.
  • Prioritize multiple tasks amidst frequent interruptions.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, staff, and external agencies.
  • Maintain personal, professional, and ethical boundaries.
