The role

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Lead Piping Engineer to join our UAE Business Unit.

Wood has been awarded a general engineering contract to support an International Client operator to deliver a portfolio of onshore capital projects by provision of engineering and project management services (including EPC contract management), as well as Supply Chain, Construction and Commissioning support from Wood Iraq and UAE offices.

Projects include both Greenfield and Brownfield modification projects and integrating low-carbon solutions to support our client's energy transition and emissions reduction goals.

General
Ensure that the facilities are designed in accordance with the latest corporate guidelines with respect to environment and health aspects
Provide technical assistance and coordination with other discipline engineers
Provide technical assistance during installation, pre-commissioning & commissioning

PMC
Ensure quality and accuracy of EPC Contractor's and Vendor's Discipline design activities
Review and approval of EPC Contractor's work and ensure compliance with project specifications, relevant codes and standards, and best industry practices in compliance with the contractual review periods
Participate in layout reviews, Model review, design reviews, and technical workshops

Key Objectives
  • Lead and manage the piping engineering and design of the project work scopes.
  • Provide technical leadership and decision making for Piping engineering work carried out by the EPC contractors
  • Single-point responsibility for all piping deliverables and ensure that they conform to all applicable engineering codes and standards as well as the Client's policies and procedure
  • Ensure that the overall project is delivered to meet the asset operational need
  • Provide direction and guidance on all technical queries relating to piping design and engineering
  • Review of stress analysis reports & Supports.
  • Responsible for all model & safety reviews conducted during design development
  • Participate in various project's workshop such as Design, Hazardous Operations (HAZOP and HAZID), Constructability reviews, etc.
  • Ensure that all work is completed without compromise to quality and is delivered according to the project schedule
  • Liaise with the Client's Engineering, Operations and Maintenance staff as required to ensure a consistent approach to project completion
  • Promote safe behaviour at all times
  • Provide sound technical advice and solutions to a diversity of technical problems within the discipline
  • Co-ordinate with other disciplines during all stages of design development, construction, pre-commissioning, and start-up
  • Provide technical support to site in terms of material inspection & Factory Acceptance Testing
  • Identify any areas of concern with respect to progress and / or quality and recommend corrective actions as required
  • Attend weekly progress meetings and generate status reports for the Engineering / Project Manager
  • Tracking and reporting of lessons learned in defined area of responsibility


QUALIFICATIONS

Expected:
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering (B.Sc./B.Eng./M.Sc.) Membership of a recognised professional institute preferred
  • 15+ years' experience in Piping discipline with at least five years of lead discipline in major capital project.
  • Experience in stress analysis, supports & with managing piping stress software Caesar II
  • Experience with EPC contractors, sub-contractors and vendors involved in the oil and gas industry.
  • Previous experience of working in the GCC would be an advantage.
