The Bonga Operations Technicians form the core of the shift teams on the Bonga FPSO. They operate and maintain production systems safely and efficiently ensuring the correct quantity and quality of products are delivered.
The Operations Technician will work primarily with the Shift Supervisor, Operations Engineer, Operations Supervisor, Technical Custodian Subsea, Maintenance Technicians, Operations Technicians on same and other shifts, Contract staff, the Marine Team and Vendor Representatives for overall safe running of the Bonga production systems.
The production systems are divided into the following subsystems:
1. Subsea wellheads
2. Oil Process
3. Gas Process
4. Power and Utilities Process
5. Water injection
Operations Technicians are expected to start up, control, monitor, and shut down of assigned subsystems as required and to maintain safe operations and achieve production targets.

To practice as an engineer in Nigeria, you would need to be COREN registered or registrable. To deliver on the role, you will need to have a learner's mindset and possess strong interpersonal skills i.e., able to influence and develop relationships across various disciplines, functions, and cultures. You would also need to be comfortable in leading people, coaching, and motivating less experienced colleagues and delivering through others. You would be required to work in line with company guidelines on (i) HSSE and (ii) Ethics & Compliance.

What is the role
The principal accountabilities of the Bonga Operations Technician are:
- Responsible for the surveillance of assigned production systems.
- Maintaining close liaison with the Control Room Operators (CRO) and performing operational actions requested by the CRO.
- Reinstatement and startup of systems and equipment.
- Monitoring process plant and making adjustments where necessary to sustain and optimize production.
- Carrying out all Operational Planned Maintenance Routines.
- Taking/analysing samples as required by job specification.
- Carrying out first line maintenance within agreed scope.
- Gathering, interpreting and communicating information as required.
- Shutdown, depressurising, purging/flushing of isolated systems and equipment for maintenance.
- Verifying that key adjustable operating parameters in the production facilities and systems are optimised, to identify problems in the processes and to take appropriate corrective action.
- Identifying deviations from optimum operating parameters and taking corrective actions.
- Carrying out handover to the incoming shift and maintain a daily handover log of significant events in the areas of responsibility and perform a verbal on-the-job handover with the oncoming shift technician, to ensure continuity of operations.
- Taking plant logs once per shift or as may be required.
- Providing operational and technical knowledge input into the design of changes in system's configurations.
- Ensuring the execution of critical system maintenance and ensure that first line diagnosis and corrective actions are adequately carried out.
- Responding to production incidents, hazardous conditions or emergencies as required, utilising ESD facilities where appropriate.
- Carrying out emergency response duties as may be required.
What we need from you

Furthermore, you will need the following in order to be successful on the role:
- Must have legal authorization to work on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
- You must have a National Diploma (ND) or its equivalent in a relevant engineering field plus minimum 10 years' experience in a production role on an offshore oil and gas facility
- Completion of the Shell Intensive Training Programme 2 (SITP 2) will be an advantage.
- Experience with working with P&IDs and a good understanding of isolation principles.
- Strong stakeholder management skills to work across different teams to harness ideas and generate solutions or new approaches to complex problems
- Computer literacy and proficiency in the use of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems preferably SAP.
- Excellent communication and organization skills
- Planning and time management
- Skilled in safe work practices as expected in an industrial setting.
- Analytical skills - visually demonstrate (graphs/ tables/trends)
- Problem solving and strategic thinking
