What will you be doing?

The Engineering Technician is an office-based role located at our Global Welding Development Centre in Old Kilpatrick. The role sits within our Internal Corrosion Management (ICM) Product Team and reports directly to the Product Engineering Manager.

During Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Installation projects the Product Team provides product related input and guidance from early engagement through project execution and beyond.

Collaborating across the business to innovate and develop new products and services, the team support Subsea7 to win and deliver high quality work.

How do we achieve this? By engineering cost effective, sustainable, pipeline corrosion mitigation products for new and existing global energy applications. Through establishing a robust supply chain, standardisation and digitalisation of products and processes, which successfully deliver efficiency gains and loss reduction.

The Role: The Engineer Technician will support ICM Engineers in completing commercial or development projects with a primary goal of supporting and executing practical activities, qualification programs and experimentation.

This will require excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders. Also, the ability to prioritise and manage workload aligned to deadlines and budgets, while contributing to wider team activities.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Risk manage ICM activities, adhering at all times to HSEQ procedures.
  • Input to the specification, design and testing of ICM products, processes, procedures, and associated equipment.
  • Generate detailed product and component designs using 2D and 3D CAD.
  • Collaborate with SCM to procure and expedite items, liaising with vendors to manage spec and quality.
  • Participate in research and development, and commercial project qualification testing activities, ensuring professional, safe and timely completion.
  • Develop and / or manage scopes of work for small R&D projects.
  • Identify and resolve issues, ensuring lessons learned are documented and shared.
  • Analyse and report test results.
  • Contribute to setting product objectives and strategy, participating in discussion groups to develop and utilise knowledge and expertise.
  • Collaborate efficiently and effectively across the business, particularly during practical activities to devise and deliver schedules against objectives and budgets.
  • Undertake reasonable planned travel to support delivery of ICM products.
  • Identify and undertake role relevant training to continue professional development.


What experience would we like you to have?

  • A recognised Apprenticeship and/or role relevant experience gained in an operational environment.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills, verbal and written, with the ability to build effective collaborative relationships.
  • Demonstrates initiative and ownership of tasks while contributing to team activities.
  • Pro-active planning and organising skills, able to identify and effectively prioritise workload and successfully meet multiple, often competing deadlines.
  • Pro-active with a solutions-based approach, willing to challenge the status quo.
  • Committed to continuous improvement of both self and service.
  • Flexible and resilient to adapt to changing priorities within a fast-paced 24/7 global business.
  • Committed to continuous improvement, will identify efficient work methods and processes and undertake personal training and development.
  • Ability to undertake reasonable planned travel, as required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products.


You can enhance your application if you can also demonstrate:

  • An HNC/HND qualification in an Engineering/Materials subject.
  • Practical knowledge of machine shop equipment including milling machines, lathes, and pillar drills.
  • Experience working with polymer products or materials.
  • Experience working in pipeline production activities e.g. welding.
  • Good understanding of general engineering principles
  • Good understanding of any of hydraulics, electrical or pneumatic systems.
  • Working knowledge of CAD tools i.e. Solidworks, AutoCAD Mechanical, BricsCAD.
