Safety Officer

Work Location:

  • Onshore, Qatar

Work Schedule:

  • Site-based

Contract Term:

  • 1-year contract

Qualifications:

  • HNC or equivalent in an engineering discipline.
  • Associate membership of a recognised safety institution.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 12 years' experience in operational safety, preferably within the Oil, Gas & Petrochemical industries, specifically for infrastructure and construction projects.
  • In-depth knowledge of safety regulations, standards, and procedures.
  • Proficiency in the use of PC applications including MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and other relevant software.
  • Experience in the Arabian Gulf is highly desirable.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

As a Safety Officer, you will play a key role in ensuring the highest standards of health, safety, and environment (HSE) practices across the project. Your responsibilities will include:

1. Health & Safety Oversight:

  • Provide expert technical support to ensure health and safety compliance throughout the project lifecycle, from definition and design to the execution phase.
  • Ensure adherence to established HSE policies, procedures, and regulations related to fire safety, life safety, emergency response, and security systems.

2. Site Inspections and Risk Management:

  • Carry out daily site inspections to ensure activities are aligned with approved method statements, risk assessments, and permit to work systems.
  • Identify and implement risk reduction measures across all phases of construction to safeguard personnel and assets.

3. Documentation Review and Compliance:

  • Assist in reviewing method statements, JSAs, safety certifications, and contractor documentation to ensure full compliance with safety regulations.
  • Review and assess the qualifications of contractor safety officers, ensuring their competence prior to mobilising them to the project site.

4. HSE Performance Monitoring:

  • Collaborate with senior HSE engineers to implement HSE performance monitoring, set objectives, and ensure HSE policies are followed across all project activities.
  • Contribute to the maintenance of the HSE risk register to monitor and close out project risks throughout the duration of the project.

5. Incident Reporting and Corrective Action:

  • Investigate any incidents or accidents, ensuring compliance with corporate procedures for incident management, and implement corrective actions where required.
  • Conduct site safety meetings and promote HSE awareness amongst the project staff and contractors.

6. Safety Audits and Compliance:

  • Conduct safety audits to ensure compliance with HSE policies and provide recommendations for improvements.
  • Follow up on corrective actions and ensure that they are effectively implemented across the project.

What We’re Looking For:

  • A highly skilled safety professional with extensive experience in managing safety in large infrastructure or construction projects in the Oil, Gas, and Petrochemical sectors.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and mitigate risks at various stages of construction.
  • Proven track record of ensuring compliance with HSE regulations and enhancing safety culture on-site.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence and support contractors and project staff in following safety guidelines.
