Mechanical Commissioning Engineer - Uganda

On behalf of a major operator, WRS are looking for an experienced Mechanical Commissioning Engineer to join a major oil & gas project on a 12-month renewable contract. This role is based on-site in Buliisa, Uganda, on a 28/28 rotational schedule, offering an attractive day rate in USD.

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee the commissioning and start-up of rotating & static equipment across various project sites, including a Central Processing Facility, LPG extraction plant, and remote well pads.
• Manage a base crew of 75 personnel, providing on-the-job training during the commissioning phase.
• Ensure maintenance and preservation activities are conducted safely and efficiently.
• Work closely with contractors and vendors to ensure compliance with project specifications and timelines.
• Define commissioning packages and oversee pre-commissioning activities.
• Ensure all commissioning execution activities adhere to HSE (Health, Safety & Environment) standards.
• Conduct site visits, track progress, and resolve technical issues to ensure smooth handover to operational teams.
• Approve contractor commissioning plans, punch lists, and quality control procedures.
• Support the start-up phase by coordinating mechanical completion and system integration.

Requirements:

• HND or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering.
• 12 years of experience in commissioning, start-up, and operation of mechanical systems within the oil & gas, petrochemical, or large utility sectors.
• Expertise in rotating machinery, turbo generators, compressors, pumps, HVAC, and piping systems.
• Strong leadership skills with experience managing multi-disciplinary teams.
• Proficiency in ICAPS or similar commissioning completion systems.
• Solid understanding of industry standards, compliance, and risk management.
• Fluent in English with excellent organizational and communication skills.
• Valid Medical Certificate as per company standards.
