As a Senior Gas Design Engineer, you will work in the Gas Advanced Design group and will be responsible for providing project management and design services for Colorado Springs Utilities natural gas high pressure distribution infrastructure. In this role, you will provide project technical leadership and operational support to a group of CAD technicians, design engineers, construction crews, and contractors providing design and construction services. You will lead efforts to standardize design and as-built practices, create policies and procedures for design and engineering manuals, and lead functions related to traceable, verifiable, and complete (TVC) compliance. You will also lead and coordinate drafting and design-related duties using AutoCAD Civil and Plant 3D. The work that you do will directly impact the current and future safety and reliability of Colorado Springs' natural gas infrastructure and community. An Engineer III will support these same functions with responsibilities commensurate to the job classification.

Key Focus Areas:
- Support and conducting preliminary project research and project management for engineering projects (e.g., developing scope of work, estimating project costs, tracking changes, monitoring schedules)
- Conduct preliminary field site assessments, coordinating survey/staking, and performing final field checks in areas around energized lines, construction equipment, and combustible gasses - and inspecting construction, installation, and maintenance of facilities, service lines, and equipment
- Determine access needs, surveys, and negotiating with property owners; obtaining right-of-way easements and researching titles to determine ownership; and negotiating easements, prices, assessments, and payments
- Assist in the procurement and specification of new materials and services depending on project requirements
- Develop procedures, processes, guidelines, and standards regarding engineering best practices and techniques
- Analyze and review technical drawings, costs, specification design, and feasibility - and creating and maintaining computer models to aid in analysis, design and operation of systems
- Draft, measure, draw, analyze, and revise plans, maps, charts, schematics, 3D renderings, as-built, and installation drawings; drafting finished plans; preparing product and equipment diagrams
- Create surfaces, alignments, profiles, pipe networks, and plan production including plan and profile sheets, and construction details and tables; Preparing drawings of plans, charts, maps, and schematics of utility facilities and structures according to engineering specifications using CAD software with Civil 3D and Plant 3D packages
Who You Are:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from an accredited institution
- Demonstrated experience in reviewing and creating gas pipeline designs
- Experience with, and knowledge of distribution pipeline design practices, procedures, and operating standards
- Comprehensive understanding of applicable federal and state pipeline safety regulations, particularly Title 49 CFR Part 192
- Experience with AutoCAD software, Plant 3D, and Civil 3D is highly valued
- Engineer in Training (EIT) and Professional Engineer (PE) certifications are valued
- Strong interpersonal skills that establish effective relationships, strong attention to detail, and ability to work well with others in a collaborative environment
- Engineer IV (Senior Engineer): 5 to 7 years of engineering experience
- Engineer III: 3 to 5 years of engineering experience
