An excellent career opportunity is currently available for an Advanced R&D Scientist within UOP's R&D Catalysis Fundamentals and Applications Research Group located in Des Plaines, IL. This position provides a unique opportunity to lead development of new catalyst materials for UOP's catalyst portfolio, deepen fundamental catalysis knowledge through rigorous and creative experimentation, and collaborate with other R&D departments to create holistic approaches to catalyst discovery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support and lead research project teams in the areas of heterogeneous catalysis and conversion of various feedstocks to discover fundamental chemistries and invent new technologies which fill UOP's technology pipelines.
- Propose ideas for new projects, develop project plans with management, and initiate new projects including identifying requirements for equipment, resources, and outside innovation.
- Utilize catalyst characterization and screening methods to build structure-property relationships and accelerate catalyst discovery.
- Stay current on patent and open literature as they relate to research programs and identify opportunities for research directions. Document all innovative concepts and lead in the generation of intellectual property.
- Interface with other UOP departments to ensure robust catalysis R&D and develop new collaborations.
- Communicate important project results to cross-functional teams and ensure progress is documented in research reports.
- Participate in all departmental safety activities and conduct all work with a high degree of attention to safety.
YOU MUST HAVE
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as science, technology, engineering, mathematics
- 6+ years experience in heterogeneous catalysis.

- PhD in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering with experience in heterogeneous catalysis

- Experience in materials discovery and mechanism elucidation for catalytic applications
- Ability to balance fundamental research and practical catalyst discovery to deliver project goals
- Effective verbal and written communication skills to convey scientific information
- An open, honest and team-oriented personality
- A sense of urgency and drive to achieve results on tight timelines
- Ability to direct laboratory work and an eagerness to get involved in hands-on work to test new ideas.
- Ability to occasionally meet virtually with team members and project stakeholders across time zones.
