Use your skills, experience, and talents to support the collection, management, and analysis of electric metering and billing data. This role will focus on programming, installing, operation and maintaining Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Inter-Control Center Communications Protocol (ICCP), Energy Management Systems (EMS), and Generation Management Systems (GMS). The analyst will provide troubleshooting and technical support for various systems and other energy management tools to ensure the integrity and reliability of energy systems for Electric Operations.

Our members are our passion! NMPP Energy is a non-profit coalition of more than 130 municipally owned utility systems in the Central and Mountain states. We provide wholesale electricity, wholesale and retail natural gas, and utility services to member municipalities, most of which are small, rural communities. The Municipal Energy Agency of Nebraska (MEAN) is one of four organizations that make up the NMPP Energy Coalition. MEAN is a not-for-profit organization that provides wholesale electricity supply and services to 69 participating communities in four states.
The Energy Systems Technician supports the mission of NMPP Energy by:
- Designing and maintaining the energy account platform, meter data infrastructure and calculation architecture.
- Configuring and maintaining SCADA, EMS, GMS, and ICCP systems, including Nova Tech components and other digital solutions, with on-site and remote troubleshooting and repair.
- Overseeing telecommunications and data communications networks; identifying and addressing current and future internal and external customer needs including resolving customer issues, meeting commitments, and soliciting feedback.
- Coordinating the integration of field hardware and software, including remote telemetry units (RTUs), data acquisition systems, and communication protocols such as Modbus, DNP, and TCP/IP, ensuring seamless operation and reliable data transmission between systems; assisting with system testing of software releases and updates.
- Ensuring compliance with market regulations, cybersecurity protocols, and industry standards by implementing protective measures for operational technology networks, firewalls, and data encryption to safeguard systems and data.
- Developing system configurations, upgrade procedures, and technical reports; researching and recommending hardware/software upgrades; managing acquisition and inventory control for all applicable equipment and supplies; coordinating work with affiliate utilities, third party providers and vendors for system installation and maintenance.
- Research new Energy System functionality to fulfill current and future business needs and write equipment specifications based on research and project plans and develop cost estimates for requisition of outside services, expenses, and capital purchases to complete recommended projects.
Skills & Qualifications You Need
- Associate's degree in Applied Electrical Technology, Advanced Metering, or related field or equivalent from two-year college or technical school and 2-5 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience with SCADA, EMS, ICCP, GMS, and Nova Tech systems.
- Understanding of cybersecurity principles, including firewalls, encryption, access control, and network security.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, SQL databases, and communication protocols.
- Knowledge of telemetry, substation metering, and energy data acquisition systems.
- Ability to read schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
- Familiarity with control and monitoring systems, radio networks, cellular networks, ethernet networks, routing, and firewall configurations.
- Valid driver's license
- Ability to travel up to 15% of the time.
