Our Applied Science practice leverages a unique combination of technologies and expertise to engineer practical solutions to problems of national and international importance. We apply expertise in solid and fluid dynamics, materials science, acoustics, risk assessments, and computational simulation methods to solve complex problems. We perform research, mathematical modeling, software development, and design to manage risks to life safety in military platforms and installations, ships and submarines, critical infrastructure, tall buildings, public facilities, industrial and petrochemical plants, and automotive and airborne vehicles. Military, government, corporate, and academic clients value the validation of Applied Science's software and the critical insights gained from correlating analysis with testing.

The Role

The Engineer will conduct analysis and research to solve complex engineering challenges and develop innovative methodologies for first-of-a-kind applications, with guidance from senior staff. Given the fast pace of technology commercialization and decarbonization advancements, the ability to quickly learn and adapt is essential. A strong candidate will be curious, proactive, and eager to explore emerging technologies. Responsibilities may include:

Responsibilities

• Preparing conceptual design (utility demand, block flow diagrams, equipment lists, etc.), and integrating systems required to decarbonize data centers, universities, airports, or other campuses.
• Using process engineering tools or developing Excel-based calculations to estimate energy production and demand for a myriad of decarbonization systems and technologies.
• Researching and interpreting published data on carbon capture, hydrogen, battery storage, and low-embodied carbon technologies such as concrete curing, mineralization, and net-zero cement.
• Documenting designs, developments, and analyses through engineering drawings, reports, and presentations.
• communicating and presenting findings to clients, ensuring alignment on project goals, expectations, and results.

Requirements

• 3+ years' experience in Engineering, with a background in power generation, energy, and/or decarbonization.
• Creative conceptual thinking. Desire and ability to research new technologies and quickly learn new skills.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work closely with a multidisciplinary team of scientists, engineers, and business professionals.

Compensation
The rate for this position generally is $85,000 - $95,000 annually. This range is a good faith estimate provided pursuant to the Illinois State Pay Transparency Law. It is based on what a successful Illinois State applicant might be paid and assumes that the successful candidate will be in Illinois State or perform the position from Illinois State. Similar positions located outside of Illinois State will not necessarily receive the same compensation. Actual pay rates may vary from the range, as permitted by Illinois Equal Pay Transparency Law. Compensation offers will be based on various factors, including operational needs, individual education, qualifications and experience, work location and comparison to employee already in the role, as well as other considerations permitted by law. A potential new employee's pay history will not be used in compensation decisions.
