We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Health and Safety Specialist to join our team for a nuclear refurbishment project in Cernavoda, Romania. The successful candidate will be responsible for cultivating a strong safety culture of reporting all at risk conditions, behaviours and incidents with the purpose of preventing recurrence. This is a critical role that requires expertise in health and safety practices, exceptional attention to detail, and strong communication skills with partner companies on the project.
Key Responsibilities
- Work to establish a strong reporting culture on the project.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with all local, national, and international health and safety regulations specific to nuclear projects. Stay updated on any changes in legislation and standards.
- Risk Assessment and Management: Support risk assessments for all phases of the project, identifying potential hazards and implementing measures to mitigate these risks.
- Safety Audits and Inspections: Perform regular safety audits and inspections to ensure all safety measures are being followed. Document findings and recommend corrective actions where necessary.
- Incident Investigation: Support investigation of any incidents or near-misses, determine root causes, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Training and Development: Provide ongoing health and safety training to all project personnel. Ensure that all staff are knowledgeable about the latest safety procedures and best practices.
- Reporting: Prepare detailed reports on health and safety performance, incidents, and compliance. Present findings to project management and recommend improvements.
- Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to integrate health and safety considerations into all aspects of the project.
Required Qualifications
- Professional certification such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Occupational Health and Safety Technician (OHST), or equivalent to meet the regulatory requirements in Romania.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in health and safety roles, preferably within the nuclear industry.
- In-depth knowledge of health and safety regulations and best practices specific to nuclear projects.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in using safety management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong English; fluency of Romanian is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience working on nuclear refurbishment or similar large-scale industrial projects.
- Additional certifications in specialized safety areas (e.g., radiation safety, hazardous materials management).
Working Conditions
- Full-time position based in Cernavoda, Romania.
- Work will primarily be conducted on-site at the nuclear refurbishment project.
- Must be willing to work in a high-risk environment and adhere to strict safety protocols.
- May require occasional travel for training or project-related meetings.
