Wood is currently inviting an expression of interest for Vibration Engineer position.

Due to the nature of the projects and client expectation, the position will be based full time at our office in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

Vibration Engineer role within the Wood Asset Life Optimisation (ALO) group contributing to the delivery of vibration, dynamics and noise engineering consultancy services to the internal Wood business units and to Wood's external client base. This role is primarily based in Wood offices but will also require on-site support, both onshore and offshore.

Roles in this team are crucial for ensuring the safety, reliability, and efficiency of engineering projects and will typically support one or more of the following specialist areas:
1. Machinery Analysis (MA): Assisting in the design of machinery systems such as compressors, pumps, and associated piping to ensure they operate smoothly and safely.
2. Rotating Equipment Reliability (RER): Implement techniques such as vibration analysis, oil analysis, and thermography to monitor the health of rotating equipment.
3. Field Engineering and Troubleshooting (FET): Conducting inspections, troubleshooting, and performance testing on-site to solve vibration and performance issues.
4. Static Equipment and Structures (SES): Providing expert advice and solutions to avoid vibration-related problems in new projects or modifications to existing facilities.

The key high-level aspects of the role are as follows:
  • A competent team member with typically more than five (5) years of progressively more responsible pertinent experience.
  • Contributes to the successful completion of vibration engineering workscopes and consultancy services as directed by immediate supervisor.
  • Assists in the development of vibration engineering deliverables
  • Supports senior technical professionals in field vibration measurement campaigns, both onshore and offshore.
  • Performs routine aspects of vibration engineering assignments and collaborates with experienced technical professionals for non-routine aspects.
  • Solves problems of a routine nature within clearly defined procedures.


RESPONSIBILITIES

Providing discipline expertise.

  • Produces basic vibration engineering deliverables such as philosophies, reports, specifications, data sheets and others.
  • Performs a variety of conventional engineering tasks in line with vibration discipline practices, procedures and programs.
  • Solves problems using a variety of standard methods, applying standard techniques involving only minor innovations of methodology to provide solutions to problems with a limited number of variables.
  • Responsible for data collection and gathering of information of multiple sources for preparation of vibration studies.
  • Completing Piping Vibration screening assessments and studies based on the Energy Institute 'Guidelines for the Avoidance of Vibration Induced Fatigue Failure in
  • Process Pipework'.
  • Supporting field measurement campaigns in support of vibration troubleshooting of piping concerns.
  • Represent the Vibration, Dynamics and Noise discipline on contract / project / service line.
  • Supporting vibration studies in support of projects at FEED, EPC and/or operational phases.
  • Proactively supports the introduction of innovation, new ideas and practices to improve overall performance.

Interpersonal Skills
  • Comfortable to complete site based work (12 hr shifts, upto 21 days continuous) on- and offshore globally
  • Comfortable presenting project results and group competencies to existing and potential clients
  • Continually seek to develop Wood technical services, procedures, tools and technical resources
  • Develop leadership skills within small teams in the office and on site as required. These skills include (but are not limited to) motivation, enthusiasm, effective time management, good initiative and planning ability, good communications, excellent technical delivery and an enthusiastic outlook
  • Understand roles of senior colleagues to allow cover to be provided on short term basis as required (to the limits of individual competency and typically in conjunction with other Lead Engineers and Consultants)
  • Contributing to business growth.
  • Contributes to business development through regular engagement, relationship building and delivery to clients, as well as identifying and pursuing opportunities to expand scope of work for Wood.
  • Contributes to engineering bids and proposals.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum working in the on and offshore oil and gas industry.
  • Demonstrable technical experience in vibration of machinery, static equipment and structures.
    Competent in performing vibration, dynamic stress (bonded and friction gauges), dynamic pressure and noise measurements as required (at onshore and offshore sites across EMEA).
  • Conversant with all vibration measurement equipment including transducers, analysers and all accessories.
  • Understanding of process-related, operational and other common excitation sources and able to collect all information relating to these in support of project goals.
  • Knowledge of the application of the Energy Institute Guidelines for all excitation mechanisms for greenfield plant and brownfield modifications.
  • Competent in the application of the primary AIV and FIV simulation packages used by Wood. Specific experience in the use of such packages (e.g. ANSYS) is desirable.
  • Understand the application of various other simulation packages (CFD, acoustic, surge analysis, pipe stress etc). Specific experience in the use of such packages (e.g.
  • Caesar, PULS/BOSFluids, SolidWorks, PipeNET) is desirable.
  • ISCED Level 6 Bachelors (minimum) or Level 7 Masters (preferred) Degree in engineering discipline, alternatively, tertiary level education combined with suitable industry experience can be used to demonstrate equivalence.
  • Working towards chartership or relevant professional engineer status accredited by a national or industry engineering institution preferred.
  • Demonstratable CPD record showing examples of technical and consulting development
