As a Solar Engineer at Centrica Business Solutions you will provide technical expertise and support during the initial phases of development as well as pre and post construction stages of solar photovoltaic (PV) and battery storage projects. The Solar Engineer will work closely with business development, project development, and project construction staff to structure solutions for customers' renewable energy needs

Open to flexible work schedules working fully remote or hybrid but must be able to travel occasionally. Preferably looking for someone to be near the following locations:

  • Mid Atlantic region
  • Texas
  • California

Our Solar Engineers contribute to the team by:

  • Designing and engineering commercial and small utility-scale solar PV and BESS projects. Ensure designs comply with local building codes, National Electrical Code (NEC), NFPA fire codes and utility interconnection requirements.

  • Auditing sites as needed for renewable systems installation suitability, environmental limitations, structural limitations, electrical infrastructure, shading, array placement and general feasibility.

  • Creating complete construction drawing sets (plan views, single-line diagrams, equipment specifications) for permit and installation.

  • Specifying system components, including panels, inverters, racking, batteries (if applicable), and balance-of-system materials.
  • Establishing design specifications and scopes of work for Engineers of Record (EOR.)

  • Coordinating the development of Scopes of Work associated with equipment selection, installation subcontractors, and engineering consultants as needed.

  • Assisting in in preparing and submitting interconnection applications to utilities, including compiling required technical documents, single-line diagrams, and system specifications to meet utility review standards. Coordinating with utilities during the review process by responding to technical questions, providing additional documentation, and facilitating required inspections to ensure timely approval for system commissioning.
  • Supporting O&M team with any technical questions or system troubleshooting on projects in commercial operation
  • Supporting Operations during the construction phase with technical issues, as-builts, redesigns, and project close-out.

The core components needed to be successful in this role are (i.e. must haves):
  • Associates or Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Electrical, Renewables, or Mechanical disciplines
  • 3+ years of experience in Electrical Engineering, Solar Development or Construction of renewable energy systems.
  • Experience using Solar Design and Modeling Software - Preferred Helioscope, Energy ToolBase, and or PV Systems
  • Understanding of construction requirements, schedule and tasks to deliver BESS and solar for roof top, ground mount and carport systems.
  • AutoCAD, Sketchup or similar image manipulation program skills
  • NABCEP Installation Professional Certification (preferred)
  • Valid Driver's License; Travel required with employee's automobile

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $80,000-$110,000 + bonus + benefits. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location and expectations during the hiring process.
