Wood is recruiting for a Principal Piping Engineer to join our Operations West business, focusing on piping packages within brownfield oil and gas projects. This is a permanent position ideal for an engineer looking to progress into a leadership role, supporting one of our key energy clients based in Perth.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Piping Engineer to join a high-performing team and contribute to the success of a key energy client. In this leadership role, you will support an established team focused on FEED and execution delivery for new and significant brownfield engineering projects—aligned with global energy transition and energy security goals. Based in Perth CBD, this is a permanent role and is available as a full-time / part-time (job share) basis.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Head of Discipline, you will step up and into a dedicated client contract team. You will balance technical, team, client, and project leadership across onshore gas plants (including LNG) and offshore gas and condensate production facilities and thrive on the challenge of:
  • Focal point for Piping engineering activities across the project life cycle (Concept, FEED, detailed design) to produce fit for purpose solutions
  • Produce cost effective Piping engineering reports, documents and deliverables
  • Support and mentor junior engineers and designers
  • Ensure all assigned work is carried out in compliance with agreed budget and schedule
  • Provide technical assistance to others as required.

In this highly visible client facing role, your dual focus on relationships and delivery will be essential. Anticipating client needs beyond the immediate scope, you will drive technical excellence and assurance on the piping engineering portion, while enabling the ongoing growth and development of your team. You will also work in close partnership with other disciplines and the client to enable robust technical decisions that ultimately add value to the client and asset portfolio.

QUALIFICATIONS

Expected:

You will be able to work lawfully in Australia and hold full working rights for this location. If you have a visa application in progress, you are also encouraged to apply.

Suitably qualified in Mechanical Engineering from a recognised institution, ideally you will have proven experience working in a similar Principal Piping Engineering role, supported by 15+ years of relevant design engineering experience within the Oil & Gas production and / or processing industries.

In addition, you will:
  • Be recognized as an expert in piping engineering and have knowledge of advanced principles and techniques of engineering, with experience delivering within a challenging and complex multi-discipline environment.
  • Be a leader of people with several years of supervisory experience, capable of engendering an entrepreneurial spirit of cooperation and energising diverse teams to adopt best practice, driving optimal performance with safety at the heart of everything we do.
  • Have a professional level of knowledge of relevant regulatory framework and legislation with an ability to apply relevant technical practices, codes, and standards.
  • Be commercially astute with a "solutions mindset", skilled in the management of risk during the design process consistent with safety, technical and commercial requirements.
  • Be an articulate communicator (both written and verbal) including well-developed technical report writing and professional presentation skills.
  • Have excellent knowledge of MS Office applications, spreadsheets, and commercial engineering programs.
  • Have a passion energy security / transition with the vision to navigate energy models of the future, coupled with your proven experience partnering with clients to be more efficient, sustainable, and optimised to deliver the best energy mix in their respective markets.
  • Be customer focused with an ability to develop trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders, while balancing operational excellence to contribute to the competitive advantage of #teamwood.
