Senior Fuel Channel Engineer

AtkinsRéalis is looking for Senior Fuel Channel Engineer to be a part of our team in supporting the refurbishment and the operation of existing CANDU nuclear power plants. Reporting to the Project Engineering Manager, the Mechanical Engineer will contribute to the Bruce MCR project for the refurbishment of Bruce Units 3-8. The successful candidate(s) will be responsible for executing fuel channel design scope and documentation required for design registration. The candidate will also provide guidance or support to address issues that arise during FC installation.

This position requires an individual who is self-motivated and capable of working independently and develop his/her career and experience in the nuclear field. The candidate shall be willing to mentor junior engineers and act in a technical lead capacity.

Your role within the team:

The qualified individual will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

• Perform conceptual and detail design engineering work on fuel channels.
• Prepare design documentation, such as design requirements, design specifications, technical specifications, registration design submissions packages, detail drawings, general arrangements, and technical documents.
• Lead and participate in technical, conceptual and detail design meetings in front of peers, clients and suppliers.
• Provides technical guidance and leadership to engineers at lower grade levels and/or other technical employees.
• Develop, plan, schedule, conduct or co-ordinate detailed phases of the engineering work in part of a major project or in a total project of considerable scope.
• Work in accordance with applicable codes, standards, regulations, client and company procedures.

The ideal candidate:

• Degree in Mechanical, Engineering from an accredited University.
• 15 or more years of relevant experience designing mechanical equipment for licensed nuclear facilities, preferably related to fuel handling, the fueling machine, and/ or fuel channels.
• Professional Engineering License and willing to obtain ASME Appendix XXIII qualification in the future.
• Understanding of machine mechanics, mechanics of materials, material selection and fundamentals of machine component design.
• Knowledge of boiler, pressure vessel, and pressure piping (CSA N285, ASME Section III).
• Presentation skills and public speaking abilities is an asset.
• CAD experience in Solid Edge or Solid Works is an asset.
• Must have excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
