On behalf of a major Oil & Gas operator, WRS areseeking a highly skilled Lead Electrical/HVAC Engineer to join work on a residential basis in Kampala, Uganda. This will be a 12 month renewable contract role, paying a day rate in USD.
You will be supporting a large-scale onshore oil production and processing development located, comprising over 400 wells, an advanced production center, and extensive infrastructure in a remote and environmentally sensitive region. This is one of the most technically challenging and significant upstream projects in the region.
Key Responsibilities

You will be supporting a large-scale onshore oil production and processing development located, comprising over 400 wells, an advanced production center, and extensive infrastructure in a remote and environmentally sensitive region. This is one of the most technically challenging and significant upstream projects in the region.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the technical authority for electrical systems and HVAC equipment during both project and operational phases.
- Lead the development and implementation of Maintenance and Inspection Engineering (MIE) strategies, procedures, and plans for electrical and HVAC systems.
- Review and approve technical documents related to electrical installations and maintenance operations.
- Oversee the implementation of Electrical Safe Systems of Work and prepare site-specific electrical authorization plans.
- Provide expertise during equipment FATs/SATs and support commissioning/startup activities.
- Ensure seamless integration and compliance with local power grid standards and permitting regulations.
- Support spare parts strategy, selection, and procurement.
- Act as a technical mentor for the development and training of local Ugandan engineers and technicians.
- Provide ongoing engineering support to ensure safe, efficient operation of electrical and HVAC systems.
- Manage maintenance activities and ensure statutory and corporate compliance.
- Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions for equipment failures.
- Prepare detailed reports to meet internal and regulatory requirements.
- Act as guardian for Safety and Environmentally Critical Elements (SECEs) within scope.
- Degree in Electrical, Electronic, or Instrumentation & Control Engineering from a recognized university.
- 12 years' experience in electrical maintenance within oil & gas or petrochemical environments, including at least 2 years on an operational site.
- Previous experience working for an oil & gas operator
- Proven leadership experience in supervising electrical maintenance teams and systems.
- Strong knowledge of international codes and standards (e.g., NEC, NEMA, IEC, ATEX, NORSOK).
- Must be eligible to obtain Uganda Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA) Class A certification.
- Prior experience working in multicultural, remote environments is a strong advantage.
