Context & Environment

This role is based at the Port Arthur Platform within the Maintenance Department.

Intitle n+1 : Supervisor - Rotating Equipment & Reliability

Intitle n+2 : Superintendent - Mechanical Engineering

Activities

  • Possess knowledge of and practice applicable HSE rules, procedures, and practices - actively look for opportunities to correct equipment HSE deficiencies as part of daily tasks, knowledge of lean management
  • Knowledge of lean management and its application in an industrial environment
  • Monitor operating performance of rotating equipment to ensure availability is maximized, performance is up to expected levels, and cost of operations, repair, and ownership is minimized
  • Provide technical support to Maintenance regarding repair process and options. Provide technical support to Operations regarding performance, application, start-up/run/shutdown procedures, etc.
  • Conduct failure analysis on rotating equipment malfunctions. Develop root cause analysis of failures, including all repair or replacement options and best economic recommendation
  • Author and audit preventive maintenance and predictive maintenance procedures in order to decrease maintenance expenses rising from preventable failures by using new technologies like Wireless solution, Condition Monitoring System and Early Detection Systems.
  • Develop equipment repair and upgrade scopes to increase reliability or performance and decrease future repair expenses. Stay abreast of technology changes and sponsor economical new technology options
  • Monitor progress in the shop and field of repairs/upgrades to conventional and major equipment. Author and promote MOC documentation as required
  • Manage the bad actor program and provide KPIs for the rotating equipment activities
  • Develop and audit site reliability standards comment in order to reduce future repair expenses and maximize equipment availability
  • Develop and audit site and corporate engineering standards while balancing cost versus reliability.
  • Participate in the development of the Long Term Plan (LTP) for rotating equipment
  • Mentoring of less experienced Rotating Equipment Engineers and Analysts
  • Development of training material for Operations & Maintenance
  • Ensure that site quality and safety initiatives are carried out in daily activities

Provide inputs, goals for the Turnaround team, including new improvement projects related to Gap Analysis

Candidate Profile

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 7+ years of experience with petrochemical and refinery rotating equipment, or be able to demonstrate expertise in solving engineering type problems with rotating equipment
  • Experience on large centrifugal machines and rotating equipment associated with light hydrocarbon cracking unit (i.e. Ethane, LPG, Naptha) is preferred
  • Knowledge and experience with API and ANSI standards, corporate specifications associated with rotating equipment, performance testing and re-engineering, mechanical seal specifications and upgrades, lubrication, vibration testing and analysis techniques, alignment methods and tolerances, foundation installations and repairs, equipment procurement scopes and analysis
  • Experienced in reading and understanding P&ID's, technical specifications, and mechanical engineering techniques and procedures
  • Working knowledge of associated piping and instrument systems, electric motors, machining techniques, and heat transfer methods
  • Vibration Institute certification Level I, II, or III or equivalent is a plus
  • Tribology (lubrication) certification (CLS) is a plus
  • Computer skills: Familiar with computer systems used in normal engineering work plus SAP, Microsoft Office programs, calendar systems, Internet retrieval of vendor information, and process data retrieval systems, aware about new technologies like wireless instrumentation

Travel is required and is typically in support of offsite repairs, training, project meetings, and witness performance testing
