Building Construction Lead, Terminal Facilities - Tanzania

On behalf of a major operator, WRS are seeking a highly experienced Building Construction Lead to oversee theconstruction of critical terminal facilities in Tanga, Tanzania. This is a site-based role on a rotational schedule, supporting a major infrastructure project in the region. The successful candidate will work closely with contractors, consultants, and project management teams to ensure that all construction activities meet technical, safety, and schedule requirements.

The posiiton will be offered on a 12 month renewable contract, rotating 8 weeks/2 weeks at site, paying a day rate in USD.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and coordinate building design and construction efforts, including technical buildings, offices, laboratories, workshops, and hazardous storage shelters.
• Supervise detailed design activities, ensuring compliance with applicable codes (BS and EN), project specifications, and regulatory requirements.
• Oversee day-to-day on-site execution of civil, structural, architectural, and finishing works.
• Ensure HSE compliance and promote safety culture across all building construction activities.
• Interface with EPC contractors, consultants, and site teams to drive quality, resolve issues, and track progress.
• Review and approve construction documentation, shop drawings, quality plans, and progress reports.
• Support pre-commissioning, commissioning, and handover phases.
• Provide guidance on material selection and technical substitutions, considering both local content and functional performance.

Requirements:

• University degree in Engineering or related discipline.
• At least 20 years of design and construction experience, including 15 years in plant/technical building projects.
• Experience working for an Oil & Gas operator
• Strong understanding of complex building systems (HVAC, fire protection, security systems).
• In-depth knowledge of British and European building standards.
• Ability to lead multicultural teams and work in challenging environments.
