Overview:
An international offshore engineering client is seeking a Senior Quality Engineer with a strong background in Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) to join their quality assurance team in Kuala Lumpur. This is a technically demanding role focused on supporting fabrication projects, NDE techniques, and quality audits across a portfolio of offshore EPC developments.
The role offers an opportunity to contribute to advanced offshore fabrication work-particularly within FPSO or similar systems-and to work alongside experienced global teams.
Key Responsibilities:
Standards & Procedures
- Develop and review QA standards and process documents for internal use and affiliated partners.
- Approve supplier and subcontractor QA procedures.
- Conduct gap analysis between current QA practices and client-specific requirements.
Project & Stakeholder Coordination
- Liaise with project teams, classification societies, and client reps.
- Provide technical mentorship and guidance to site-based QA/NDE teams.
Audits, Inspections & Technical Review
- Perform project audits and assessments; identify, document, and support resolution of non-conformances.
- Witness and validate NDE procedure demonstrations (PAUT, RT, UT, etc.).
- Review and approve NDE documentation, scan plans, and technique sheets.
- Evaluate technical queries (TQs) and design deviations (DDNs) from suppliers and subcontractors.
Certification & Records
- Review and verify NDE personnel certifications and equipment records.
- Validate supplier/subcontractor technical qualifications.
Technique Development & RCA
- Assist in the development of new NDE methods and techniques.
- Conduct or participate in root cause analysis (RCA) and advise on resolutions in collaboration with project teams.
- Use historical lessons learned to update internal quality specifications.
Monitoring & Surveillance
- Define and track NDE-related KPIs.
- Monitor subcontractor progress and suggest solutions for backlog clearance.
- Implement and oversee NDE personnel verification and surveillance during fabrication.
Candidate Requirements:
- Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline (degree preferred).
- 5-7 years of experience in quality/NDE roles within the offshore or FPSO sectors.
- Proficient in UT and advanced NDE methods; strong radiographic film interpretation skills.
- Knowledgeable in QA/QC practices and relevant classification codes.
Certifications (Required or Preferred):
- ASNT Level III (or equivalent) in multiple methods
- PCN PAUT/TOFD Level 2 or 3 (or equivalent)
