Job Title: Competent Person – Lifting Operations (CPLO)
Location: Doha, Qatar (Residential) – occasional offshore missions possible
Contract Type: Secondment
Duration: 24 months (tentative start August 2025)
Work Schedule: 5 days on / 2 days off, 8–10 hours per day
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Competent Person for Lifting Operations (CPLO) to oversee, coordinate, and improve lifting activities across multiple operational areas, including drilling, production, logistics, marine, construction, maintenance, and inspection. This role will be based in Doha, with occasional offshore site visits. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in ensuring all lifting operations meet the highest safety, regulatory, and technical standards.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Support

Provide expert advice and support for lifting operations and equipment selection.

Review and approve critical lifting plans, attending lifts when necessary or delegating appropriately.

Support procurement and hire of lifting equipment and service providers.

Conduct lifting equipment inspections and verify fitness for purpose.

Assist in developing technical procedures and methodologies for safe lifting operations.

Participate in external lifting audits and implement improvement initiatives.
Safety, Compliance, and Risk Management

Ensure lifting activities comply with international standards (ISO, DNV, BS, API, LOLER, NORSOK).

Oversee risk assessments for lifting operations and verify that safe working procedures are in place.

Investigate incidents and near-misses, identify root causes, and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
Training and Competence Management

Define competency requirements for lifting personnel.

Assess and develop lifting teams’ technical skills.

Design and deliver training programmes for lifting operations.
Organisation and Communication

Advise on lifting management systems and organisational structure.

Foster collaboration between operational teams, contractors, and external stakeholders.

Maintain industry awareness and implement best practices across lifting operations.
Qualifications and Experience

Minimum 10 years’ supervisory/management experience in crane, rigging, and handling operations.

At least 3 years as a CPLO or equivalent leadership role.

Strong technical knowledge of lifting equipment and operational safety.

Proven experience in onshore, offshore, and inshore environments.

Skilled in lift planning, risk assessment, and personnel competence evaluation.

Certified in relevant industry qualifications (e.g., LEEA, EAL, OPITO, CPA).

Experience in training, coaching, and competence assessment.

Proficient in inspection of various lifting equipment, including cranes, CCUs, forklifts, winches, hoists, and wire ropes.

Excellent communication and organisational skills.
