Wood is currently recruiting for a Mechanical Engineer to join its Iraq business unit focusing on developing and implementing preventive maintenance schedules for mechanical equipment for a major onshore brownfield project in Basra, Iraq on 6 days on 1 day off rotation.

Job Description

Wood is currently recruiting for a Mechanical Engineer to join its Iraq business unit providing Brownfield Engineering Services for a major onshore project in Basra, including specification development, MR/TBE, vendor technical coordination, and multi-discipline interface management supporting procurement and execution.

This is a full-time, site-based role on a 6 day per week schedule (daily basis).

This is an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer to join our Iraq Business Unit and drive consistent, high-quality engineering deliverables (datasheets, specifications, MR packages, TBEs) and vendor package management that enable safe, constructible brownfield solutions.

Wood has been awarded an Onshore Project to support an International Client operation by providing Brownfield Engineering & Design Services. The Vision of this Contract is to enhance the production & assets integrity across various locations. Team of Engineers and Designers based in Basra and Dubai supports the execution of these projects.

Projects under this contract focus on flare system revamps/re-ignition, rehabilitation of aging assets, BTEX emission control, flare gas recovery, and replacement/upgrade of obsolete equipment, piping & systems, where mechanical engineering services and vendor package integration are key.

Job Objectives:

Prepare and own mechanical equipment datasheets and technical specifications in accordance with client standards and international codes (API/ASME/ISO).

Develop complete Material Requisition (MR) packages (scope, specifications, datasheets, TRs/TQs, discipline interfaces) to support timely procurement.

Support and document Technical Bid Evaluations (TBEs), including clarification cycles, technical compliance matrices, and recommendation reports.

Manage vendor package engineering: kick-offs, design reviews, Vendor Document Review (VDR), approval cycles, and close-out; ensure alignment to project specifications and execution needs.

Coordinate multi-discipline interfaces (Process, Piping, E&I, Civil/Structural) to ensure complete, constructible, and maintainable solutions.

Support site surveys and data capture for brownfield tie-ins and equipment replacement and vendor data validation.

Provide technical support to resolve technical queries (STQs/TQs) promptly.

Ensure compliance with HSE standards, quality requirements, and regulatory codes across all engineering deliverables.

Maintain accurate records of deliverables, reviews, approvals, and non-conformances; contribute to lessons learned and continuous improvement.

Expected:

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Material Engineering, or a closely related discipline.

Minimum of 5 years' experience specifically in brownfield engineering services (FEED/detail design), including datasheets/specifications, MR development, TBEs, and vendor package management, preferably in oil & gas and petrochemical sectors.

Proficiency in reading and interpreting PFDs/P&IDs, equipment drawings, vendor GA/IDC packages, and specifications.

Working knowledge of API/ASME/ISO mechanical codes and operator specifications; awareness of Iraq brownfield constraints is an advantage.

Strong problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills; ability to prepare clear, concise technical reports and records.

Proficiency in English and Arabic (spoken and written).

Good awareness in Safety Operations, Risk Assessment, and Best Practice Engineering.

Understand and follow oral and written instructions; prepare clear and concise records, reports and other written materials.

Continuous Improvement mindset: ability to interact in a multi-cultural environment and liaise with third-party contractors, business partners and local communities.
