Operations Safety Leader (Drilling & Wells)

Location: Kampala, Uganda
Contract Type: 12-month renewable contract
Start Date: Q1 2026
Work Schedule: Resident position

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced HSE Performance & OSEQ Leader to oversee Health, Safety, and Environmental performance across complex Drilling & Wells operations in a large-scale, remote onshore development. The successful candidate will drive HSE leadership, ensure compliance with international standards, and promote a strong safety culture across all drilling and operational sites.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and monitor the Drilling & Wells HSE Plan, ensuring alignment with corporate HSE management systems and best industry practices.
  • Lead and coordinate Operational Risk Assessments for complex or simultaneous operations (SIMOPS, well testing, downgraded situations, etc.).
  • Manage and mentor a team of six HSE professionals, ensuring objectives, resources, and performance targets are met.
  • Conduct audits and inspections of rigs and third-party contractors to verify compliance with contractual and international safety standards (including ISO 14001).
  • Facilitate HSE Steering Committees and represent the company in meetings with partners, contractors, and local authorities.
  • Lead incident investigations, including Cause Tree Analyses, and ensure lessons learned are effectively communicated and implemented.
  • Monitor HSE KPIs, analyse trends, and report findings to support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support contractor HSE performance evaluations and contribute to prequalification and tender assessments.
About You
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent (minimum 3-year university degree).
  • Experience:
    • At least 8–10 years in Oil & Gas operations, including 3 years in Drilling & Wells with HSE supervisory responsibilities.
    • Proven experience in leading multidisciplinary teams and driving HSE initiatives in challenging field environments.
  • Certifications:
    • Cause Tree Analysis (required)
    • Additional training in Risk & Human Factors, Environmental Protection, or Oil Spill Response is advantageous.
  • Skills:
    • Strong leadership and communication abilities in multicultural settings.
    • Excellent planning, coordination, and analytical skills.
    • Ability to influence and engage both internal teams and contractors on HSE matters.
