The Role

Wood is currently seeking for a Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Edmonton, Alberta. Reporting to the Manager of Mechanical Department, the role supports Wood's future and ongoing projects in Edmonton. This role will support engineering deliverables and ensure technical compliance by collaborating with internal teams, clients, and vendors, while participating in site activities and aligning with project strategies.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Typical responsibilities
  • Support mechanical engineering activities for EPC projects, with a primary focus on rotating equipment packages (e.g., pumps, compressors, turbines).
  • Provide support for static equipment (e.g. pressure vessels, heat exchangers) as needed.
  • Assist in the preparation and review of engineering deliverables such as datasheets, specifications, and technical bid evaluations.
  • Collaborate with vendors, clients, and internal teams to ensure technical alignment and project requirements are met.
  • Participate in site visits and support activities in Edmonton and surrounding areas.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable industry codes, standards, and client specifications.
  • Work closely with the Mechanical Program Lead and Mechanical Department Manager, providing updates and aligning with project strategies.
  • Engage with High Value Engineering Centers (HVEC) and contribute to multidisciplinary coordination.
  • Support Brownfield projects and retrofit equipment evaluations.
  • Participate in Management of Change (MOC) processes and contribute to multiple small projects.

Expected:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with APEGA or eligible for registration
  • 5-15 years of experience in EPC projects within the Oil & Gas or Energy sectors
  • Strong technical knowledge of rotating equipment; experience with static equipment is a plus
  • Familiarity with Major operating companies' design standards and engineering practices is an asset
  • Knowledge of industry codes: ASME, API and Canadian Codes
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must reside in or be willing to relocate to Edmonton, with the ability to travel to site as required
