You know commissioning. You've done it before. You understand the chaos, the deadlines, and the fact that nothing ever goes exactly to plan. And you're okay with that-because you're the one who makes sure it all works in the end.
This role isn't about sitting in an office writing reports all day. It's about leading the commissioning of I&C and M&E systems on a major power project. Control panels, PLCs, SCADA, engine management systems, electrical and mechanical packages-you'll be across all of it.
You'll be the person who:
  • Pulls together commissioning teams and gets them working like a well-oiled machine.
  • Makes sure everything is tested, integrated, and handed over without drama.
  • Talks to OEMs, EPC contractors, and site teams without losing your cool.
  • Solves problems when things inevitably go wrong.
  • Keeps the paperwork straight so everyone knows what's been done and when.
If you've commissioned power generation projects before-gas peaking, thermal, reciprocating engines-you'll know what's involved. You'll also need to read P&IDs, wiring diagrams, and control logic without breaking a sweat.
What you'll need:
  • A relevant engineering qualification (Degree, HNC, HND, BTEC).
  • A CSCS card or ECITB CCNSG Safety Passport.
  • Leadership skills that actually work on-site, not just on PowerPoint.
  • The ability to stay calm when the pressure's on.
If you like the idea of being the person who makes sure everything works when the big red button gets pressed, this could be for you.
