Senior Piping Engineer / Designer
Location: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
A major engineering project is seeking an experienced Senior Piping Engineer / Designer to support oil and gas and petrochemical developments. Candidates will work on onshore, offshore, and floating facility projects, ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient piping system design from concept through to construction deliverables.
Key Responsibilities

Prepare stress analysis specifications, critical line lists, and calculation notes.

Perform stress and flexibility assessments for high-temperature lines, cryogenic/LNG service, underground piping, rotating equipment connections, and piping subject to platform or hull movement.

Review and select pipe supports, including springs, stops, guides, trunnions, and other specialised components.

Evaluate nozzle loads for rotating equipment, pressure vessels, and tanks.

Recommend expansion joints, bellows, and other specialised piping components.

Provide support-loading data to civil/structural teams.
-
Ensure compliance with international codes and project requirements.
-
Assist with man-hour estimates and advise on resource planning.

Develop and review 3D piping models and routing studies for all major equipment.

Implement up-to-date vendor data, layouts, equipment lists, and plot plans.

Ensure designs meet operability, accessibility, and maintenance requirements.

Assess routing for slope, free flow, drainage, and process requirements.

Incorporate stress recommendations and support arrangements into models.

Prepare and propose pipe support locations, spans, and attachments for stress review.
-
Ensure clash-free models through coordination with other disciplines.
-
Update master documents and validate model attributes.

Support internal model reviews and quality assurance.

Prepare technical documents, specifications, requisitions, and bid evaluations.
-
Supervise and mentor designers or stress engineers as required.
-
Manage activity schedules and deliverables for assigned piping work.

Conduct site visits as necessary.
Minimum Requirements

Recognised degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
-
Minimum 10 years’ experience in oil and gas or petrochemical EPC projects.

Strong background in piping stress analysis and 3D piping design.

Skilled in manual calculations, piping flexibility assessment, and nozzle load evaluation.

Experience in routing, layout development, pipe support design, and application of design rules.

Strong understanding of industry piping codes and equipment standards.

Ability to interpret and apply P&ID requirements.

Fluent in English with strong written and verbal communication skills.
-
Proactive, detail-oriented, organised, and able to work with minimal supervision.

Effective team-worker with strong problem-solving and multi-tasking abilities.
Preferred / Nice to Have
-
Experience on brownfield projects.

Familiarity with model review tools and finite-element analysis.
-
Advanced Excel/Macro/VBA skills.
