Senior Pipe Support Designer (3 positions)

Location: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Assignment: 3 months, project-based

Eligibility: Malaysian nationals only

A leading energy operator is seeking experienced Senior Pipe Support Designers to support a major short-term energy project. The role focuses on the design, analysis, and documentation of piping support systems to ensure safe, reliable, and compliant installations.

Key Responsibilities

• Calculate loads imposed by the piping system on supports, including weight, thermal expansion, and dynamic forces.
• Select appropriate support types, including hangers, anchors, guides, and spring supports, based on piping system requirements.
• Specify materials for supports compatible with piping materials and environmental conditions.
• Determine optimal locations and spacing for supports to prevent excessive deflection or stress.
• Design supports to accommodate thermal expansion and contraction without causing undue stress.
• Implement design measures to control vibration and resonance, reducing fatigue and risk of failure.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant industry codes and standards, including ASME, ANSI, and applicable local regulations.
• Coordinate with structural engineers to integrate supports with building or plant structures.
• Prepare detailed drawings and specifications for supports, including dimensions, materials, and installation instructions (e.g., SPS drawings).
• Maintain proper documentation and record-keeping for all support design deliverables.

Minimum Requirements

• Degree or diploma in Mechanical or Structural Engineering, or equivalent.
• Proven experience in pipe support design in oil & gas or energy projects.
• Competent in load calculation, support selection, and integration with structural elements.
• Knowledge of thermal expansion, vibration control, and stress mitigation in piping systems.
• Familiarity with industry codes, standards, and design practices.
• Strong technical documentation and drawing skills.
• Detail-oriented, organised, and able to work effectively within a team.
• Eligible Malaysian national based in Kuala Lumpur.
