About the Role
NOV Oslo is looking for a Project Engineer, Software to join our Field Engineering team in Asker. In this role, you will design, program, and maintain PLC and HMI systems that drive NOV's Drilling Fluid Control Systems. You will work on modernizing automation systems, supporting aftermarket projects, and ensuring smooth operation of fluid systems on offshore installations.
This position replaces an experienced engineer and is critical to maintaining and increasing the group's engineering capacity. You will collaborate with internal stakeholders, provide technical support to clients and service teams, and directly contribute to the success of NOV's advanced automation solutions.

Key Responsibilities
- Design and Programming - Develop and maintain PLC and HMI systems (Siemens PLC, HMI7, Wonderware InTouch, Siemens WinCC) for Drilling Fluid Control Systems.
- Aftermarket Project Support - Serve as a technical resource for aftermarket and upgrade projects, ensuring system quality and reliability.
- Technical Support - Provide internal and external technical assistance to project and field teams.
- Instrumentation Selection - Evaluate and select appropriate field instruments for system integration.
- Documentation - Prepare technical descriptions and project documentation for customers and sales teams.
- Quality Assurance - Perform quality checks on fieldwork done by NOV's Field Service Technicians.
- Design Work - Contribute to system layouts and wiring designs in AutoCAD.
- Support integration and commissioning activities offshore.
- Participate in process improvement initiatives within the Field Engineering group.
- Assist in mentoring junior engineers as the team expands.
Qualifications & Skills
Essential Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Automation Engineering, Software Engineering, or related field.
- Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience with PLC and HMI programming (Siemens preferred).
- Practical experience working with automation and control systems in industrial or offshore settings.
- Experience in technical support and collaboration with cross-functional teams and customers.
- Strong English communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work independently and purposefully in a team environment.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with AutoCAD for electrical or control system design.
- Competence in instrument selection and troubleshooting.
- Working knowledge of Java or Python for automation integration or data processing
- Proficiency in Norwegian (spoken and written) preferred.
- Prior experience in electrical design or field engineering environments.
