The Field/Construction Engineer provides strategic and hands-on leadership for all aspects of the fabrication process within a manufacturing or industrial setting. This position plays a critical role in ensuring operational efficiency, robust safety performance, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance. The Field/Construction Engineer is accountable for managing a team of professionals to meet production goals, maintain high standards in safety, welding and fabrication, oversee transportation logistics, and ensure effective project controls and risk management are in place. There is significant emphasis on fostering positive industrial relations, continuous improvement in QA/QC protocols, and strict adherence to safety procedures

The Field/Construction Engineer provides strategic and hands-on leadership for all aspects of the fabrication process within a manufacturing or industrial setting. This position plays a critical role in ensuring operational efficiency, robust safety performance, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance. The Field/Construction Engineer is accountable for managing a team of professionals to meet production goals, maintain high standards in safety, welding and fabrication, oversee transportation logistics, and ensure effective project controls and risk management are in place. There is significant emphasis on fostering positive industrial relations, continuous improvement in QA/QC protocols, and strict adherence to safety procedures
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead, supervise, and manage daily operations of the fabrication department, ensuring project schedules, fabrication, and welding standards are met with a strong focus on safety and regulatory compliance
- Oversee all aspects of fabrication, including advanced welding operations, according to engineering drawings, client requirements, and company quality standards
- Develop, implement, and monitor efficient production workflows, project controls, and process improvements, with a focus on QA/QC, cost control, and risk mitigation
- Drive a culture of safety, championing best practices in workplace health and safety, promoting hazard identification, and ensuring compliance with all safety policies and procedures
- Manage transportation of materials and finished products, coordinating logistics with internal and external resources to support on-time project delivery
- Facilitate strong industrial relations by acting as a liaison between management, staff, and union representatives, resolving conflicts, and promoting a positive, cooperative work environment
- Ensure rigorous quality assurance and quality control practices are implemented and maintained throughout the fabrication and welding processes
- Analyze and report on production metrics, safety incidents, quality outcomes, and project progress to senior management, providing recommendations for improvement where necessary
- Lead, mentor, and evaluate fabrication staff, providing training and development opportunities focused on technical skills, safety, and quality
- Maintain accurate inventory of raw materials, consumables, and finished products; coordinate supply chain logistics and resolve transportation challenges as needed
- Oversee risk management activities, proactively identifying and addressing potential project, operational, or safety risks
- Prepare, review, and deliver detailed reports on production, quality, safety, and project status for both internal and external stakeholders
- Manage departmental budgets, labor costs, and resource allocation, ensuring adherence to financial controls and project requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Management, or a related field preferred; extensive industry experience may be considered in lieu of formal education
- At least 7-10 years of progressive experience in fabrication, welding, and industrial manufacturing environments, including a minimum of 3 years in a supervisory or managerial role
- Proven track record in implementing and managing safety programs, QA/QC processes, project controls, and risk management strategies in fabrication settings
- Extensive knowledge of fabrication and welding techniques, codes, and standards
- Demonstrated experience in transportation logistics and coordinating the movement of materials and finished goods
- Strong leadership, team management, and industrial relations skills; experience working in unionized environments preferred
- Proficiency in interpreting technical drawings, blueprints, and project specifications
- Experience with reporting systems, project management software, and continuous improvement methodologies such as Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma
- Exceptional problem-solving, communication, and organizational abilities
- Commitment to workplace safety, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance
- Uses advanced quality tools and principles to lead technical and operational work process improvement efforts
- Understands and communicates customer and supplier requirements
- Facilitates and participates in effective internal meetings using quality tools
- Understands and applies metrics to improve functional work processes
