NEP is searching for a highly skilled and experienced candidate to join our team and help optimise our centralised broadcast services supporting a variety of marquee customers, including national sports leagues and leading streaming services.
As a Support and Commissioning Engineer - DevOps, you will work closely with broadcast engineers, software developers, system operators, and other stakeholders to maintain seamless on-air production and solve engineering issues as well as monitor, streamline and automate our infrastructure and processes. Your primary responsibility will be to design, implement, and maintain our critical infrastructure, ensuring seamless broadcast operations.
This role will also work with the rest of the support and commissioning team as part of the on-call rotation (1 week per month) supporting TFC users throughout the group. This role requires a strong interest and previous experience with software development, infrastructure monitoring and network technologies as well as a strong background broadcast technology and on-air production.

Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, develop, and maintain our centralised broadcast services - including IP based video routing infrastructure (SMPTE-2110) and production systems.
- Build and maintain scalable, fault-tolerant, and highly available systems in the NEP data center and public cloud environments, ensuring the smooth acquisition, processing and delivery of content.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to infrastructure, performance, and deployments, with a focus on uninterrupted production and delivery.
- Continuously improve our monitoring, logging, and alerting systems to ensure high system availability and performance, delivering optimal broadcast output.
- Collaborate with broadcast engineers and software developers to identify and implement measures to optimise system performance and reliability, contributing to a seamless customer experience.
- Stay up to date with best practices and emerging trends in DevOps, cloud technologies, and related tools, applying innovations to further develop our world class offerings.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience is preferred.
- Previous experience working in a live broadcast or media environment.
- Proficiency delivering complex networks and systems within a demanding live broadcast environment, including experience with SMPTE 2110 based infrastructure.
- Proficiency in using infrastructure-as-code tools (such as Terraform, Ansible, or CloudFormation) to build and manage infrastructure.
- Experience with setting up and managing containerization technologies such as Kubernetes (K8s/K3s), ensuring effective broadcasting operations.
- Deep knowledge in Observability platforms for logging, metrics and tracing - some of the tools we use are Prometheus, Graylog and Grafana
- A passion for automation and automated testing using CI/CD tooling and test frameworks.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex issues related to infrastructure, network, and software deployments.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment, ensuring seamless broadcasting processes.
- Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills in English
Desirable Experience:
- Experience in public cloud and hypervisor technologies including AWS, Azure, GCP, or ESXi with vSphere
- Familiarity with agile development methodologies and DevOps practices, contributing to a nimble and efficient environment.
- Experience with network configuration and build, including Netbox/Natuobot with Ansible for templating and configuration of system.
- You can articulate technical solutions, limitations, obstacles and risks.
- Technical fluency with key broadcast technologies including: live production systems, graphics, replay, audio, communication, playout, transmission, encoding, captioning, etc
