Are you ready to lead projects that bring cutting-edge technology to life? Join us as a Project Engineer to manage the implementation of new processes, technologies or modifications to existing processes to ensure that the project business targets are met. Employing both engineering and project management skills effectively to provide the most appropriate business solutions.

What will you be doing?

You'll take ownership of projects that introduce new processes and technologies, ensuring they meet business targets and deliver real value. From specifying and installing new equipment to validating processes and handing over to production, you'll be at the heart of innovation. You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams, manage budgets and timelines, and keep quality and compliance at the forefront of everything you do.

Health, safety and environment (20%)
  • To apply high standards of occupational Health & Safety in the workplace to comply with company policy and procedures.
  • To promote health & safety policies and procedures to encourage a safe working environment.

Project Engineering (60%)
  • To lead project execution, managing overall cost and associated budgets, overall duration, efficiency of manufacture and achievement of agreed benefits.
  • Specify and purchase new capital equipment and install, validate and hand-over to production. To lead the engineering input to ensure best practice.
  • To ensure that projects are adequately resourced throughout all stages, using direct & contract engineering resource.
  • To design/carry out and report, in a timely manner, engineering activities to support product and process design and developments.
  • To maintain an up-to-date awareness of state-of-the-art technology to maximise future profit and competitive strategy.
  • To provide engineering back-up in technology new to Smith + Nephew in order to maintain customer service.
  • To act as an ambassador for Smith + Nephew in all dealings with third parties.

Compliance (20%)
  • Steer and actively promote the engineering standards for the and Wound Management business to ensure continuous development in the manufacturing quality capability.
  • To be responsible for the generation review and approval of manufacturing and Validation documents, as documented in procedures.

What will you need to be successful?

Success in this role means being proactive, adaptable and committed to delivering results.
  • A degree in a STEM discipline and experience in project engineering within a manufacturing environment
  • Strong project management skills, including budgeting and risk assessment
  • Knowledge of quality systems and process validation
  • Confidence to work independently and build effective relationships across teams
  • Proficient within MS office applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • NEBOSH General Certificate / IOSH Managing Safely (preferred)
  • Demonstrate effective project management and a proven knowledge and understanding of documentation/quality systems within Smith & Nephew Advanced Wound Management.
  • Basic understanding of Project Management tools e.g. Gantt Charts, Project Risk Assessments and budgeting, can generate these elements and demonstrates consistency to their on-going maintenance.
  • Experience of process validation in a manufacturing
