The Opportunity
This role offers an excellent opportunity for a talented Principal HV Electrical Engineer to help shape the future direction of our growing London-based team. You'll work within a specialist HV group delivering technically challenging projects across sectors, from national-significance infrastructure and international data-centre power systems to renewable microgrid strategies, airport MV studies and major building HV design. With electrical engineering central to the transition to net-zero, we're looking for someone inquisitive, forward-thinking and ready to challenge convention. You'll operate as a key member of a multidisciplinary team, contributing to global projects and working in a collaborative, flexible environment. As a principal engineer, you'll lead the planning and delivery of technical designs from inception to completion, producing and coordinating reports, studies, models and specifications while mentoring junior engineers. The role is client-facing, requiring confident leadership of project teams, responsibility for financial performance and the ability to deliver high-quality outcomes.
Responsibilities include leading HV and MV network design and optimisation; delivering detailed power-system studies; developing earthing and substation layouts; coordinating multidisciplinary interfaces; reviewing contractor and vendor submissions; supporting procurement of HV/MV equipment; liaising with clients, utilities and regulators; and preparing clear technical documentation and presentations for stakeholders.

We are looking for people with the following:
- Qualifications & Professional Registration: Degree in Electrical Engineering (or related discipline) and professional registration with an institution such as IET or CIBSE.
- Technical Expertise: Deep domain knowledge in electrical engineering and strong understanding of British and IEC standards (BS 7671, BS 7430, BS 5839, BS 9999, BS EN 50522, IEC 60909, IEC 61936, IEC 60287).
- Software & Design Skills: Proficiency in electrical design tools such as ETAP, DigSILENT, CDEGS, Cymcap, PSCAD, and Trimble ProDesign.
- Protection & Control Systems: Strong understanding of protection principles and schemes including grading studies and coordination; unit protection (REF, SEF, BED); busbar protection; directional overcurrent (DOC); CT/VT supervision; breaker failure protection; auto-reclose schemes; and ability to perform protection calculations and relay setting coordination. Also, good knowledge of SCADA architecture, protocols (IEC 61850, Modbus, DNP3), control diagrams, network topologies, and interface requirements.
- Professional Attributes: Excellent communication skills, ability to build relationships internally and externally, commitment to continuous professional development, and enthusiasm for challenging engineering work.
