Overview
We are seeking an experienced Safety Case Manager to lead and coordinate safety case development and assurance activities for major infrastructure works. This role involves managing the safety case process from planning through to delivery, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, guidance, and organisational safety requirements.
You will provide technical leadership, stakeholder engagement, and subject matter expertise across the full safety case lifecycle. The role also includes the oversight and review of safety case documentation and, where required, direct authorship of safety cases or supporting safety management arrangements.
This position includes the management of a small safety case team and requires strong coordination skills across multidisciplinary internal and external stakeholder groups.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain Safety Case Strategies and supporting safety assurance guidance.
- Provide expert safety input at design reviews, technical meetings, workshops, and optioneering activities.
- Evaluate the acceptability of safety and environmental aspects associated with infrastructure designs and operational concepts.
- Review safety case documentation for compliance with relevant standards, regulatory expectations, and recognised good practice.
- Lead and mentor safety case team members, ensuring consistent and high-quality outputs.
- Facilitate collaboration between engineering, assurance, project, and operational stakeholders.
- Produce or contribute to safety case documentation and safety management arrangements when required.
- Support integration of safety case outputs into wider programme governance and assurance processes.
- Participate in site walkdowns or reviews as needed (limited travel).
Essential Experience
- Demonstrable experience developing safety assurance strategies for complex engineering or infrastructure projects.
- Proven experience in the delivery, authorship, or assessment of safety cases within a regulated environment (e.g., nuclear, defence, transportation, energy, manufacturing, chemical processing).
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills across the safety case lifecycle.
Desirable Experience
- Familiarity with safety assurance frameworks in regulated or high-hazard industries.
- Experience using claims/arguments/evidence (CAE) structures for safety functional requirements.
- Safety case delivery experience within complex engineered systems or high-integrity operational environments.
Essential Qualifications & Training
- SC Clearance (or ability to obtain).
- Degree (or equivalent qualification/experience) in a relevant STEM discipline.
- Demonstrable competence in safety case development and assurance.
Desirable Qualifications
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) or equivalent professional status.
