Job Title: ITC Senior Systems Administrator
Department: ITC / Infrastructure Services Team
Location: Basra, Iraq
Work Pattern: 28/28 rotation
No of Positions: 2

Role Synopsis:
  • The ITC department is a key strategic enabler to the business today and in the future. Our mission is to deliver transformational technology, build digital capability, and continuously enhance cyber security resilience. 
  • The Senior Systems Administrator is responsible for the delivery and support of over 500 virtual and standalone servers and storage/back up infrastructure that is installed in two main Data Centres as well as Azure cloud infrastructure 
  • The role involves maintaining trouble-free operations, resolving operational issues, and implementing project and change activities to agreed costs and timescales. Key responsibilities include deploying, monitoring, maintaining, and upgrading servers, storage, operating systems, and software in collaboration with other teams. The engineer will also assess security vulnerabilities and manage systems using tools to report on capacity and performance.
  • This position is crucial for ensuring effective customer support and continuous service improvement while promoting a culture of safety and honesty within the team.

Key Accountabilities:
  • Lead activities to recover from incidents and complete subsequent problem management and Root Cause Analysis.
  • Produce and update infrastructure roadmaps, including upgrade paths and end-of-life information.
  • Provide a structured weekly report that monitors progress on incidents, projects, and key activities.
  • Define and execute changes based on agreed policy.
  • Work with Infrastructure and other ITC teams to design, develop, deploy, monitor, maintain, upgrade, and support servers, storage, operating systems, and software.
  • Serve as a key technical liaison, supporting other ITC teams with project implementation.
  • Keep key operational, known issues, and training documentation up to date.
  • Assess security vulnerabilities and take appropriate action to mitigate risks.
  • Use appropriate tools to monitor and manage applications, reporting on capacity, performance, and optimisation, and taking necessary remediation action.
  • Develop and maintain excellent relationships with a diverse group of stakeholders, including users, vendors, and IT service organizations.
  • Identify and progress continuous service improvement activities.
  • Identify risks to service delivery, recommend options to address them, and execute approved options.
  • Actively promote a culture of HSSE (Health, Safety, Security, and Environment) awareness within the team and the wider organization

Essential Education & Certification:
  • University degree in the field of Engineering / IT or related discipline. or related equivalent experience.
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate (AZ-104)
  • VMware Certified Professional (VCP)

Essential experience and job requirements:
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar ITC Infrastructure administration role.
  • A proven track record in back-office infrastructure service delivery.
  • In-depth experience with the following technologies:
  • Hyperconverged Infrastructure
  • ExaGrid storage systems
  • Virtualisation: Specifically, VMware (ESXi hosts, vCenter administration, virtual disk operations, VM deployment)
  • Enterprise VDI Administration (Citrix / AVD)
  • Storage: RAID, SAN, DAS, NAS
  • OS Administration: Windows Server 2019/2022/2025, KMS, Licensing
  • Experience administering Linux enterprise operating systems
  • Backup: Veeam On-Premises and Cloud (Backup/Restore operations, backup types)
  • Active Directory: User/Computer Management, Group Policy, AD Group Management, Authentication
  • Microsoft System Monitoring & Configuration Management: Systems Centre (SCOM, SCSM, SCCM), ARC, Intune and SolarWinds
  • Azure Services: ASR and AFS, managing Azure and on-premise workloads
  • Microsoft Online Administration
  • Good knowledge of data centre operations and technologies.
  • Strong understanding of Cyber Security principals
  • Strong communication (verbal and written), analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proactive thinking and the ability to come up with options and solutions.
  • Leads by example, is motivating, positive, and energetic.
  • Demonstrates strong customer empathy

Desirable criteria & qualifications:
  • ITIL V3 foundation and at least 1 ITIL Intermediate certification, preferably V3 Service Operations
  • Azure Solutions Architect Expert (AZ-305)
  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
  • Citrix CCA/CCP
  • RedHat RHCSA
