Commissioning Engineer / Commissioning Coordinator

Overview
A major industrial project is seeking an experienced Commissioning Engineer / Commissioning Coordinator to lead and coordinate pre-commissioning, commissioning, and system completion activities during the site execution phase. This role combines hands-on site commissioning leadership with cross-discipline coordination, acting as a central interface between construction, commissioning, quality, and operations teams.
Reporting functionally to the Commissioning Manager during execution, you will play a critical role in ensuring systems are safely tested, completed, and handed over in line with project, quality, and safety requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate, and execute pre-commissioning and commissioning activities at site
- Ensure safe operation of equipment, systems, and personnel at all times
- Supervise and coordinate commissioning, pre-commissioning, and operational testing activities
- Act as the primary point of contact between commissioning, construction, logistics, and client teams
- Provide guidance to construction teams to achieve mechanical completion in line with commissioning priorities and sequences
- Ensure commissioning activities comply with project quality, safety, environmental, schedule, and cost requirements
- Issue site instructions and execution programmes related to commissioning activities
- Produce regular progress reports for project and management teams
- Lead site teams to meet health, safety, and environmental objectives, including permit to work, isolation, and incident reporting requirements
- Coordinate with quality, construction, and commissioning management on inspections, punch lists, and system handover
- Develop inspection and test records, completion certificates, and handover dossiers
- Verify allocation and completion of quality check sheets for all systems and equipment
- Arrange test equipment, temporary facilities, tools, and consumables required for commissioning activities
- Plan and mobilise commissioning resources, including vendors and subcontractors
- Ensure all testing is witnessed and documented in accordance with project quality plans
- Maintain system completion progress, manage punch lists, support change management, and coordinate completion milestones
Qualifications and Experience
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Instrumentation, or a related engineering discipline
- Extensive experience in commissioning and handover activities within the oil and gas or heavy industrial sector
- Proven experience delivering multiple commissioning and system handover phases on large projects
- Strong knowledge of system completion processes, mechanical completion, pre-commissioning, and commissioning workflows
- Experience working in site-based or worksite commissioning environments
Skills and Competencies
- Strong coordination and leadership skills across multidisciplinary teams
- Solid understanding of commissioning sequences, priorities, and completion systems
- Ability to manage interfaces between engineering, construction, commissioning, and quality teams
- Strong reporting, documentation, and communication skills
- High awareness of health, safety, and environmental requirements in live project environments
Certifications and Site Requirements
- Offshore or site safety certifications may be required depending on project scope
- Ability to comply with site access, safety, and training requirements
