Senior Electrical Engineer - Tanzania

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Electrical Engineer to support electrical operations, maintenance, and inspection activities at a large-scale onshore energy and marine terminal facility in Tanzania. This is a senior site-based role, acting as the electrical authority for MV and HV systems, providing technical leadership, mentoring local teams, and ensuring the safe, reliable, and compliant operation of all electrical assets. The role involves close coordination with maintenance teams, service contractors, and external power providers.

Location: Tanga, Tanzania (Site-Based)
Rotation: 8 Weeks On / 2 Weeks Off
Contract Type: 12-Month Renewable Contract
Compensation: Day Rate (USD)

Key Responsibilities

Electrical Operations & Maintenance

• Act as Electrical Isolation Authority for site operations.
• Oversee commissioning validation and safe operation of HV, MV, and LV systems.
• Ensure electrical performance and availability across all facilities; investigate malfunctions and implement corrective actions.
• Manage electrical maintenance activities, both planned and corrective, to ensure equipment reliability.
• Support commissioning, pre-commissioning, SIMOPS, and handover activities.
• Participate in incident investigations, shutdowns, and issue technical reports.
• Identify system optimisation opportunities to improve availability and reduce lifecycle costs.

Electrical Systems in Scope

• HV/MV/LV power distribution systems
• Electric motor-driven pump packages (up to 2MW)
• VFDs, MCCs, switchgear, PLCs, control panels
• Diesel generators (up to 4MW)
• Pipeline heating systems and heat tracing
• PV solar farm and battery energy storage systems (BESS)
• UPS systems, lighting, HVAC, and building electrical services
• Compressors, nitrogen generators, heaters, and exchangers

Technical Authority & Compliance

• Prepare and review electrical operating, shutdown, and safety procedures.
• Validate site modification requests as electrical technical authority.
• Ensure compliance with international electrical standards and safety regulations.
• Act as focal point for coordination with external power grid providers.

Candidate Profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• Certified MV and HV Electrical Engineer.
• 15–20 years’ experience in the oil & gas or energy sector.
• Minimum 3–5 years’ experience as site electrical authority.
• Strong background in power generation, distribution, ECS, PMS, and electrical safety.
• Proven experience with transformers, motors, switchboards, and control systems.
• Experience mentoring, training, and accrediting electrical personnel.
• Good knowledge of CMIMS / maintenance management systems.
• Strong analytical, organisational, and troubleshooting skills.
• Excellent HSE awareness and safety leadership.
• Fluent in spoken and written English.
