Job Description:

Automation Engineer - PLC & SCADA Programming for Green Energy Solutions

Join Shell Biogas and help shape the future of green energy!

We're looking for an Automation Engineer, who is passionate about technology and eager to make an impact in this role. Your work will directly contribute to the green transition and the evolution of our technologies. Our biogas plants are placed across Denmark and Europe. Shell Biogas is Denmark's largest biogas producer, delivering over 25% of the biogas to the national grid. We are committed to driving innovation and sustainability in energy production. You'll join an energetic organization with skilled colleagues and a strong focus on collaboration and development.

About the role

As part of our Engineering Technical Support (ETS) department within Asset Management, you will report to the Manager of ETS and work closely with our 15 large-scale biogas plants. Your task is to support our biogas plants and will include programming, commissioning, and documenting changes to our systems both locally and internationally. In this role, you will ensure optimal operation and continuous improvement of our control systems as well as our production. The role is based in our Shell Biogas head office in Odense and will required occasional visits to sites in Denmark and across Europe.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Active participation in the department core value: Work With Fun
  • PLC programming, primary Siemens S7/TIA, secondary Rockwell RSLogix and PlantPAx
  • SCADA configuration, primary IGSS, secondary Rockwell FTView
  • Identify and implement optimization opportunities to reduce costs and increase capacity
  • Develop maintenance programs based on risk assessments and legal requirements
  • Drive multidisciplinary maintenance and improvement projects from concept to final implementation in collaboration with both the local operations organizations across Europe and our internal departments based in Denmark
  • Share knowledge between Asset Management and project teams during new plant designs and refurbishments
  • Configuration and setup of servers
  • Create functional- and programming descriptions
  • Design and Configuration of process networks
  • Support operations and contribute to a strong safety and performance culture

Automation Engineer with a logical mindset

You have an educational background as an automation engineer, automation technologist, marine engineer, electrical contractor, or similar. In addition, it is an advantage if you already have experience in a similar position. However, it is not a requirement. If you have the right mindset we will be interested in recent graduates. As a person, you think logically and have a structured approach to problem-solving. Quality is your trademark, and you thrive in the role of "expert" in your field. You are both experienced and enjoy working in project teams with excellent communication skills and are also able to work independently. We have a strong focus on your development, so we expect you to be curious and have the will to learn new things and improve your skills further in your field. We have an equally strong focus on our employees' well-being and expect you to take active part in the community and environment within the department. You have good communication skills in Danish and English.

Other requirements:

  • Experience with technical project management and work in a goal-oriented and structured way to meet agreed schedules
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, where you share knowledge and create results through collaboration
  • You thrive on challenges and are passionate about solving technical problems.
  • You thrive in an environment where new tasks are constantly on the horizon and where not two days are ever the same.
  • Ability to think holistically, also across the organisation, and to build good relationships with others. At the same time, you thrive in a result-oriented and ambitious environment where we work every day to optimise our operations organisation.
  • Willingness to work on projects and with colleagues across Europe and potentially in other Global markets.
  • Flexibility to occasionally travel to our sites in Denmark
