Role Overview
The QA/QC Engineer (Mechanical) will be responsible for overseeing quality assurance and quality control activities for mechanical, piping, and rotating equipment works. The role includes ensuring compliance with project specifications, managing inspection teams, and supporting construction, testing, and commissioning activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Support contractors in preparing and submitting QA/QC documentation including ITPs, QCPs, welding, NDT, HT, painting and other test procedures, and material approval requests in line with the construction programme
- Assist in review and approval of quality management, engineering, and procurement documents
- Ensure QA/QC requirements are implemented on site and at supplier/subcontractor locations
- Organise and participate in pre-activity review meetings, quality walkthroughs, and weekly QA/QC meetings
- Conduct surveillance and inspections for structural, piping, pipeline, and rotating/static equipment fabrication and installation, including pre-commissioning and commissioning activities
- Identify non-conformances and direct contractors on corrective and preventive actions
- Initiate and manage NCRs, ensuring timely root cause analysis and close-out
- Monitor material test certificates, construction records, and traceability documentation
- Verify implementation of preservation management systems
- Maintain inspection and test equipment registers and calibration records
- Ensure systems are in place to monitor inspection and test status and perform statistical analysis of results
- Track KPIs, special processes, and personnel performance
- Participate in internal and external audits, including vendor, supplier, and subcontractor audits
- Supervise and coordinate discipline inspectors and QA/QC personnel
- Provide technical guidance and report quality issues to functional supervision
- Work on construction sites under varying climatic conditions
- Comply with project safety requirements and promote safe working practices
Candidate Requirements
- Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent from a recognised institution
- IRCA Certified QMS Lead Auditor
- Welding Inspector Certification (CSWIP 3.1 / AWS-CWI), Painting Inspector Certification (BGAS Grade-2 / NACE Level-2), and NDT Level-2 Certification (RT, MT, UT, PT) are mandatory; equivalent international certifications accepted
- IIW Welding Engineer / NDT Level-3 and advanced NDT certifications (PAUT, TOFD, Auto UT) are desirable
- Professional memberships or affiliations with recognised international institutions (ASNT, AWS, TWI, NACE, ASQ-CMQ&OE, MCQI-CQP, or similar) are an advantage
- Extensive experience in QA/QC mechanical and piping works on major oil and gas, renewable energy, or power projects
- Experience on large greenfield or brownfield process plants, including solar/photovoltaic projects
- Strong working knowledge of QA/QC processes, inspection, testing, and acceptance criteria for mechanical and piping systems
- Familiarity with international codes and standards including ASME, API, ISO, AWS, BS EN, TEMA, NACE, and similar
- Hands-on experience with piping, pipelines, static and rotating equipment (pressure vessels, exchangers, tanks, pumps, compressors, package equipment) and associated QA/QC activities
- Experience managing QA/QC teams and coordinating inspection and testing activities
- Ability to resolve complex QA/QC issues and disputes arising from technical interpretations
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary and multicultural environments
