Job Summary

The Associate Principal is the subject matter expert on design topics of electrical engineering and is a key reference point for his team members. S/He is in-charge of the technical aspects of electrical design activities of medium to high complexity in K&A. He works closely with Project Managers for the review and validation of design deliverables and monitors the checking and reviews of all design phases and ensures the proper implementation of all related adjustments and revisions. The jobholder conducts design value engineering in coordination with the Project Manager and design teams. S/He shall stay abreast of the latest trends and developments in the electrical design field and represent the firm in the professional engineering community, as needed.

• Support Project Managers with the management of client relations and expectations, as needed
• Support Project Managers in client presentations and workshops, as needed
• Support Project Managers with responding to client clarifications and technical issues, as needed
• Provide technical subject matter expertise to clients during proposal pitches and in client meetings during design delivery
• Develop publications showcasing K&A's expertise in the field to further promote K&A's brand in the market
• Ensure client satisfaction with electrical design deliverables

Key Responsibilities (Internal Business Process)

• Provide subject matter expertise on technical focused topics
• Provide sophisticated technical subject matter expertise to design teams during all stages of design delivery (concept design, schematic design, final design) in coordination with Design Managers and Project Managers
• Lead discussions with clients to determine criteria guiding design, including budgets, preferences, etc.
• Provide technical assistance in the development of electrical concept designs, including all required drawings and reports, for projects of medium to high complexity, for discussion with clients
• Support the collection of internally available data to support project execution
• Support Design Managers/Project Managers in the refinement of selected design options into schematic and draft final designs, including all required drawings and reports
• Provide support in design coordination with other design specializations (e.g. Architecture, Structural, Mechanical, Water & Environment) to coordinate design requirements across disciplines for electrical designs of projects of medium complexity across all design stages (conceptual, schematic, detailed), as needed
• Closely work with stakeholders for design value engineering for projects of medium to high complexity, as needed
• Closely work with Project Managers for the review and validation of design deliverables with clients and authorities, capturing feedback and obtaining approvals, for medium to high complexity projects
• Work closely with project teams for reviewing design deliverables of medium to high complexity electrical designs, including conducting detailed reviews and checks and the issuance of checking reports
• Conduct QA/QC on design deliverables
• Assist Project Managers with implementing quality control policies and procedures on design deliverables and conducting peer review on team members' deliverables
• Solve design conflicts during supervision stage for medium to high complexity projects, as needed
• Support during the supervision stage, as needed, including responding to RFIs and work on solving electrical design conflicts of medium to high complexity projects, in coordination with local design teams
• Support Design Managers in design management interrelated issues
• Support in conducting project close-out activities and derive lessons learned

Qualification, Technical Skills and Competencies

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
• Master's Degree in Engineering or PhD is preferred
• Specialization in electrical design is preferred
• Chartered Professional Engineering certification or equivalent is preferred

• In depth knowledge of electrical engineering
• Understanding of international engineering standards and codes
• Knowledge of electrical engineering-related rules and regulations in the Middle East
• Excellent communication skills and ability to represent the organization in diverse forums
• Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills
• Proficiency in spoken and written English; Arabic is an advantage

Specific Experience Required to Execute this Role

• 12+ years of experience in electrical design in a top tier regional / multinational engineering consultancy firm
• Strong experience in large and complex electrical design projects
• Exposure to global best practices and trends in the electrical design domain
• Experience in the Middle East is preferred
