Role Overview
The MPD Field Supervisor is a senior-level field specialist responsible for supervising and executing managed pressure drilling (MPD) operations. The role requires hands-on technical expertise, autonomy, and leadership to oversee field crews, maintain equipment, and ensure safe, compliant, and efficient operations across multiple projects. The Field Supervisor acts as a technical advisor to management and mentors junior field staff.
Key Responsibilities
Safety, Security and Compliance
- Maintain highest standards of safety, security, and compliance in line with company policies, HSE regulations, and industry practices
- Place quality, health, safety, security, and environmental protection at the core of all operations
- Demonstrate effective safety leadership for subordinates and visitors on-site
- Actively participate in continual improvement initiatives for health, safety, security, and environmental performance
Quality
- Ensure compliance with company quality policies and management systems
- Adhere to technical work instructions and test procedures
- Participate in audits and quality assurance processes to maintain high operational standards
Operations
- Perform installation, testing, assembly, and disassembly of advanced MPD equipment in the field
- Validate job hazard analyses (JHA) for all wellsite operations
- Prepare and submit accurate job reports in line with operational performance tracking systems
- Utilize technical documentation and procedures to ensure correct wellsite operations
- Maintain readiness for 24-hour call-out requirements to support operations
- Recommend improvements to operational processes and support corrective/preventive actions
- Coach and mentor team members to improve operational competence
Communication
- Maintain effective communication with internal and external stakeholders, including field crews, management, clients, contractors, and suppliers
- Clearly communicate expectations, roles, and responsibilities to direct reports
Financial Accountability
- Demonstrate financial responsibility in the management of operational expenses
- Ensure all costs are within approved budgets and processed according to company policies
People and Development
- Take responsibility for personal development, training, and compliance with company standards
- Support team development through training, coaching, and performance management
- Collaborate with human resources and technical development teams to foster a high-performing workforce
Leadership and Vision
- Demonstrate ethical behaviour, leadership, and adherence to company standards
- Mentor and oversee junior field operations staff
- Apply advanced technical knowledge to resolve operational challenges and improve processes
Qualifications and Experience
- Technical certificate from an accredited technical school or equivalent high school diploma
- Bachelor's degree preferred
- Minimum of 5 years relevant experience in Oil and Gas field operations
- Proven competency in operational leadership and advanced MPD equipment handling
